Modern Family Star Aubrey Anderson-Emmons Comes Out as Bisexual

Aubrey Anderson-Emmons is opening up about her sexuality.

The actress who played the on-screen daughter of Jesse Tyler-Ferguson and Eric Stonestreet in the popular TV series “Modern Family” marked Pride Month by openly identifying as bisexual, embracing her true identity publicly.

In a June 16 Instagram post, the 18-year-old mimed to a clip from an episode of ABC’s show, where she, Jesse (playing Mitch), Eric (Cam), and Sofia Vergara’s character Gloria appeared together.

“You are Vietnamese,” Gloria said, to which Lily responds, “No, I’m not. I’m gay, I’m gay.”

Constantly putting his foot in his mouth, Mitch blurted out, “Sweetheart, I don’t think you’re gay. It’s just that you seem to be confused right now. Goodness gracious, what am I saying?

As I watched Aubrey’s video where she mimicked the scene with a delightful smile, she penned down, “It seems everyone is constantly cracking jokes about my supposed orientation, but let me clear the air – I am indeed bisexual.

She also shared her support for the LGBTQ+ community during this month with all her followers, adding in her post’s caption, “Wishing everyone a happy pride month, and goodnight, smiley face.

Ariel Winter, the actress who portrayed Aubrey’s on-screen cousin Alex, expressed support for her co-star by liking one of her Instagram posts.

Aubrey also found other parts of the same Modern Family episode relatable, not just the scene she shared. In fact, a popular trend on TikTok this year originated from Lily’s quote, “I hate Vietnam!”, shouted in a Vietnamese restaurant. Users on TikTok have since used that audio clip to sarcastically express their dislike of someone.

Back in March, I couldn’t help but express my heartfelt gratitude to Billboard when I said, “I’m absolutely thrilled that folks are getting a good chuckle from my show clips, and I’m deeply appreciative of all the backing they’ve given me.” As an unabashed fan, it’s moments like these that make me feel truly valued and supported.
