The series “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” has paved the way for the kaiju from the MonsterVerse to dominate Apple TV+. This show has become a major hit on the streaming service, with not only a second season on the horizon but also a secret spin-off in development. In its first season, the MonsterVerse addition provided Kurt and Wyatt Russell an opportunity to portray the same character at different points in time. In a recent interview, Lee Shaw (earlier version) spoke about the upcoming second season while suggesting that more colossal monsters are on the way.
In an interview with Outlet Collider, Wyatt Russell hinted that season two of Monarch will not only feature more giant monsters (kaiju), but will also escalate the series by deepening the mystery and intensifying the relationships between characters. He mentioned that they had to build upon themes from the first season in order to take it to another level, without revealing specific details. Russell did mention that there are additional monsters coming into play, which should make for an exciting exploration within the storyline. Additionally, he suggested that the stakes of the relationships will be significantly increased as well.
How Will Wyatt Russell Return?
It’s puzzling if you followed Monarch: Legacy of Monsters during its first season that Lee Shaw’s younger self is said to be returning. The Apple TV+ series, as you may recall, moved between past and present, concluding the flashback scenes and showing Wyatt ultimately becoming Kurt. In the final episode of last season, Shaw ended up trapped within the Hollow Earth, allowing his companions to exit it. However, in a twist, the new Monarch team landed in a recognizable, monster-infested area, as the closing scene of the previous season showcased Skull Island and Kong making their debut on Apple TV+.
Regarding which monsters will show up in “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” season two, it’s anybody’s prediction. Back in 2024, our team at egmr.ru had a conversation with the show’s creators Matt Fraction and Chris Black about their dream kaiju additions to the series. For Chris Black, he expressed a strong desire to introduce one of the most terrifying creatures ever, Hedorah, stating that “Toho has an impressive roster. Personally, I’m fond of Hoedorah the Smog Monster. Toho have been fantastic partners and I believe any of their creations could be a fit if we decide to incorporate them into our world.
Matt Fraction, who transitioned from comic writing to television creation, expresses his desire to incorporate the robotic monster fighter Jet Jaguar into the storyline: “I’d be thrilled to bring a MonsterVerse version of a Toho creature that hasn’t been featured in the films onto the show. The roster is extensive, and I believe everyone has their own preferred creatures. Among them, Jet Jaguar is one of my favorites; he may not be a kaiju, but I have a soft spot for Jet Jaguar.
