Monica’s Shocking Realization: Why She Knew Marrying Joey Wasn’t Right

Monica Danús wasn’t blindly walking away from her relationship.

As a devoted admirer, I can share that the star of Love Is Blind took great care in considering my response when I chose to decline my fiancé Joey Leveille at the altar during the eighth season finale on Netflix.

In an exclusive interview with TopMob News, Monica shared that she had made up her mind to decline at the altar the night before. She was deeply contemplating their relationship and felt that Joey never provided her with the assurance she required. The words “I’m committed to you” from Joey, which extend beyond just saying “I love you,” were something she never received.

The absence of firm commitment towards the wedding left Monica with a sense of discomfort, which she described as an unsettling feeling.

In that situation, I felt no discomfort about attending our upcoming wedding, and that’s how I responded at the time.

Why did Monica continue to appear and prepare herself for the special occasion? At age 28, she admitted that she was keeping faith that Joey would prove how deeply he feels about her.

She expressed that she had been wishing for a transformation, specifically, that by the following day of the wedding, he might say something significant to her which would alter her response and demonstrate to her his readiness.

Yet, as the final horn sounded, Monica remarked that Joey hadn’t met her expectations, further stating that this incident occurred even before the recording.

Actually, the digital marketing expert stated that their friendship disintegrated soon following the end of their engagement.

Monica admitted, “Joey and I aren’t on speaking terms right now. He’s made attempts to contact me, but I’m drained. I don’t have the energy. I once pursued a romantic relationship with him, but it failed. I also tried to establish a friendship, but that didn’t work either.

In relation to the reunion episode released on March 9, she commented, “There is a lot more beneath the surface that I only touched upon during this reunion.

Joey affirmed that he and Monica no longer kept in touch; however, he was a bit unsure about the reasons behind it.

Joey shared with TopMob that he and Monica had developed a strong friendship and mutual support system around two months prior to the reunion filming. However, Monica later shifted her perspective, and it seemed like she no longer wanted to maintain our friendship or continue in her supportive role. I’m not entirely certain where this change came from.

What wasn’t a shock to Joey? That she would turn him down on their wedding day.

He confessed that Monica’s response at the altar didn’t take him by complete surprise, as it seemed we both shared similar thoughts.

He added, “We kind of knew that we loved each other, but we were not in love with each other.”

To check in on the relationship status of more Love Is Blind couples, keep reading.

Upon our arrival in Honduras, my romantic venture with my then-fiancée hit a snag. It turned out that we shared acquaintances, which wasn’t the root of our issues, but rather my reluctance to proceed after learning about her past relationship with someone known to both of us prior to the show. This revelation made me hesitate and ultimately affected our progress as a couple.

Besides this, it’s worth noting that Dave was reluctant to present Lauren to his circle of friends and relatives. This was due to the fact that his father wasn’t aware of his engagement and his sister, who turned out to be a significant source of conflict, strongly disapproved of their relationship.

Among this season’s most lovable pairs, many spectators anticipated that Monica and Joey would exchange vows and embark on a lifelong journey together. Yet, surprising everyone, when the time came to say “I do,” Monica chose to declare, “I don’t at this moment.

At this very instant, she expressed, “It’s completely true,” she admitted while crying, “and it seems to me that we’re almost but not entirely there.” Joey concurred wholeheartedly with her sentiments.

He reassured her after their hug, saying, “It’s perfectly fine,” indicating that they both hold a deep love for each other, which is clear. However, he believes there are larger aspects of life and personal growth to consider. In agreement with her sentiment, he admitted that he isn’t ready yet. To put it simply, he’s also not fully prepared at this moment in time.

Despite having different views on significant aspects of their life, such as religion and politics, by their wedding day, Ben and Sara appeared to be in agreement. However, in the end, they chose to part ways and conclude their shared journey.

Sara, who expressed her feelings about not sharing the same future with Ben, clarified, ‘Ben, I have such deep affection for you, but I’ve always yearned for a connection on the same level. Unfortunately, at this moment, we’re not aligned in that sense. I apologize if this isn’t clear.’

Later on, she expressed, “I feel our bond is truly genuine, and my feelings are deeply involved. However, when discussing aspects that align closely with my core values, my mind signals a ‘no’ in this situation.

A pair, Devin and Virginia, who appeared to be steadfastly moving forward, encountered an issue in harmony – this tranquility was disrupted when the subject of a prenuptial agreement arose between them.

However, larger problems surfaced that ultimately convinced Virginia she couldn’t spend the remainder of her life with Devin.

She explained, with tears in her eyes following their departure from the altar, “I believe I felt a need to shield Devin in many aspects of our relationship. It might be due to cultural influences, but I’ve always felt it was essential to look after him. There were subjects he didn’t wish to discuss, like politics, and there were areas where I refrained from probing further because he didn’t want me to. As a result, we missed exploring certain depths in our relationship that remained unexplored.

In the end, at least one pair – Daniel and Taylor – agreed to spend an eternity together, finding love even beyond Christmas.

After all the discussions were over, it was confirmed that Daniel and Taylor would be spending forever together, discovering a love that outlasted even the festive season of Christmas.

Despite encountering a challenge (as Taylor suspected Daniel might recognize her from their previous interactions on Instagram since he had followed and unfollowed her before the event), they successfully navigated past this specific issue.

Indeed, following their heartfelt exchange of promises, they savored a stunning wedding ceremony along with an enjoyable reception filled with celebration.

After our wedding, Daniel remarked, “We’ve accomplished it!”, as he sat beside Taylor. With a sparkle in her eyes, Taylor responded, “We can’t wait to embark on this new journey together.

Initially, the well-known art dealer proposed marriage to the author of “Keeping Well” after finding himself in a romantic predicament involving Hannah Jiles. However, following their brief engagement, they realized that it was more beneficial for them to remain friends instead.

Brittany explained to People in a shared interview with Leo that there was simply no romantic spark between them. “After discussing the possibility at the outset,” she said, “we found during our trip that the emotional connection we hoped for didn’t materialize. We both recognized it and parted ways amicably.” They maintained open communication throughout, making the decision easy and respectful.

Monica and Stephen’s romance abruptly ended when she discovered explicit text messages between her partner and another woman, which were quite suggestive. This revelation led to their immediate breakup upon returning from Mexico. In response to the situation, Stephen apologized immediately in episode eight but also posted an apology on his social media account following the airing of the show.

He expressed on Instagram Stories on October 8 that he hopes he didn’t make anyone’s day worse by being there, and if he did, he apologizes for disrupting their morning. He wishes they didn’t have to start their day at all. However, he will continue to love them just the same.

After leaving the pods, Hannah and Nick encountered a variety of highs and lows, and more than a few differences of opinion—putting it mildly. (And let’s remember: “You are considered an equal when you start behaving as one.”)

Everything culminated when Hannah opted against walking down the aisle with him, and for Nick, that breakup was one of the most distressing experiences he’s ever had.

Since then, Hannah has admitted the show forced her to do some self-introspection.

In the October edition of The Viall Files podcast, she mentioned that she’s gained quite a bit of knowledge and identified areas requiring improvement. For instance, she acknowledged her straightforward nature but pointed out that her approach could use some refinement. She emphasized that the way one delivers a message is crucial.

In a fortuitous union reminiscent of stars aligned in scientific harmony (or what we might call those coincidental tattoos), Taylor and Garrett found an immediate connection and seemed predestined to declare their love, culminating in a “I do.” However, their journey wasn’t without a bump: when Taylor discovered that Garrett had responded to his former partner’s DM (Garrett claimed he confirmed he was engaged and ended the conversation), they faced a challenge. But this hiccup became a minor chapter in their Love Is Blind love story.

The pair were still married at the Love Is Blind reunion in October 20224.

Absolutely,

Indeed, you saw it correctly! Marissa and Ramses were among the most promising pairs this season, with everyone predicting they’d make it. However, Ramses surprisingly decided to call off their wedding after experiencing some doubts.

Marissa expresses enthusiasm about their promising future together and proposes marriage, to which her partner replies, ‘I comprehend that falling in love involves taking a chance. I get it.’

Yet, he highlighted the disparities between them, particularly their views on the military, which might not be sufficient for a harmonious relationship. “From personal experience, observing other marriages and listening to advice from other married couples,” he continued. “I believe love alone isn’t enough…There should also be other factors contributing to the success of the relationship.

Regarding Marissa, despite her efforts to move past their views, once she realized it was all over, she couldn’t hold back her tears. “I wish you hadn’t been here,” she says to him. “How could I have been so certain? And yet, you aren’t? It’s just terrible. I want you to pick me,” she continues, expressing her feelings about their separation. “Today is the worst day of my life.

Tyler and Ashley’s relationship was warmly accepted by many viewers as they enjoyed watching their seemingly carefree romance develop. However, a complication arose when Tyler revealed he had three children, which Ashley referred to as his “donor babies.” (There are ongoing discussions online about the extent of his parental involvement, a matter that Tyler himself has not commented on publicly).

By October 2024, during their reunion episode, Ashley and Tyler managed to overcome that particular incident and not only renewed their connection, but they ended up getting married and became each other’s spouses.

Tyler remarks, as he sits with Ashley following their wedding, “Two months ago, we embarked on a journey that transformed everything for us.” He continues, “And now, we’re blessed to share the remainder of our lives together.

Later on, Ashley revealed that their marriage was ended after more than a year, as they chose to part ways.

In a statement made to People magazine in January 2025, she expressed that Tyler and I have been apart for several weeks and we’ve chosen to bring an end to our marriage after careful consideration. Despite my hopes for mutual understanding and honesty in our relationship, it appears that our goals no longer coincide, making it unfeasible for me to carry on with this marriage.

By the time they returned to Washington, D.C. from Mexico, it appeared as though Alex and Tim had reconciled their significant disagreement, as they seemed friendlier than ever before. To add to this, Tim even had a touching encounter with Alex’s father which further strengthened their bond for the future.

After the meeting with Tim’s family, Alex and Tim had another disagreement which led to Tim ending their engagement. He expressed that he never wanted to interact with Alex again. Following their breakup, both individuals have spoken up to clarify their perspectives, with Alex stating that the separation wasn’t a mutual choice.

Following several spats throughout the season, Chelsea and Jimmy seemed to resolve their differences during a fun-filled amusement park outing just prior to their wedding.

Yet, it was evident that Jimmy wanted their roller coaster journey to conclude, as he called off his engagement with a tearful Chelsea – leaving her taken aback by his choice.

Jimmy expressed his deep affection for Chelsea during their date, saying, “I adore you deeply and long to build a relationship with you.” He added, “I truly hope it works out between us, but I’m just not ready for marriage yet—I can’t.

He simplified it by saying, “We’ve boiled it down to a single point of contention, but it essentially covers five or six major problems that have deeply affected me emotionally.” (One of these issues being the revelation of Jimmy’s past relationship with his female friend, which Chelsea disclosed.)

Following another round of discussions about past relationships, Chelsea departed tearfully, expressing her disappointment: “I had such high hopes for us.

The pair were both single during the March 2024 reunion.

As Clay voiced his apprehension about marriage because of his perspective on his father’s unfaithfulness, AD offered comfort by emphasizing their resilience as a couple and suggesting everything was going smoothly for them.

However, when it came time for him to make a lifelong commitment at the altar, Clay opted against it, explaining to AD that it wasn’t prudent for him to get married since he wasn’t prepared for the responsibility yet.

Cue the shock.

He assured AD that he would make the effort for her, and they’d face this challenge together. Regardless of what others might think, he acknowledged that he isn’t ready for marriage at this moment, and she deserves nothing less than the best. If he isn’t prepared to offer her 100% commitment, he won’t move forward with her until he is ready. At this point, he can’t give a definitive ‘yes’.

It turned out to be an eye-opening moment when AD, with tears streaming down her face, admitted that the connection had been a regrettable squandering of her “valuable time.

Regarding Clay, he disclosed that both financial and emotional factors significantly influenced his decision to leave. He candidly confessed, “I stood before a mirror and asked myself, ‘Am I married?'” To which he answered, “No.” When questioned about his romantic feelings, he responded, “No,” as well.

At the gathering, Clay admitted he erred by wanting to date AD, yet she seemed hesitant about the prospect of reconciling.

AD admitted that she indeed went out on a few dates with her co-star, Matthew Duliba, following the conclusion of filming, yet they are not in a relationship.

In the sixth season, it was only Amy and Johnny who agreed to a lifetime together. Their beautiful wedding not just marked the start of their journey, but also effortlessly united their families, with Amy’s father expressing affectionately that he now considers Johnny’s sister as one of his many daughters.

As for Johnny, he too declared at his reception that his father-in-law was his “new dad.”

They were still married during the reunion episode.

Initially, Brittany and Kenneth’s love flourished, but as they re-entered reality, their relationship began to lose its spark.

According to Brittany, things changed significantly when they returned to Charlotte. She feels that their connection in the pods was extremely passionate and intense, but upon returning home, some of that intensity seemed to fade a bit.

As a faithful admirer looking back, it’s clear that even though my previous intended and I are no longer romantically involved, the connection we share will endure for all time, as I expressed during our reunion gathering.

Laura’s engagement with Jeramey abruptly ended when she discovered he had rekindled a relationship with Sarah Ann Bick during a night out. Following a heated argument, Laura asked Jeramey to move on or leave, in simpler terms, “go away”.

But instead of that, he went off to ride jet skis with Sarah Ann.

In the heartwarming gathering of March 2024, I proudly shared an intriguing update about my personal life: I’ve had an on-again, off-again relationship with Sarah Ann for a year now, starting right after our show was filmed. However, we’ve recently parted ways.

Laura is dating someone else, who she did not identify at the reunion.

In the fifth season, the couple faced several challenges – among them being Izzy’s previous bond with Johnie Maraist and Stacy’s rigid expectations regarding her lifestyle and dishware (no plastic plates allowed). However, it was Izzy’s deception about his credit history that Stacy pointed out as a significant factor in her decision to not get married.

Although I didn’t exchange vows with Izzy at the altar, my feelings for her remained unchanged, and I desired to continue our relationship.

“We’re at different spots,” he told her. “It really breaks my heart.”

Regarding Stacy, she was grateful to Izzy for helping her open up emotionally, yet she wasn’t completely confident about their long-term prospects. She stated that being “fairly certain” wasn’t sufficient for her to commit to a lifelong decision.

Izzy is now dating surgical assistant Shelby Webb.

Season five’s sole success story came from arguably its most unlikely pairing.

Following an initially difficult situation when it became known that Lydia was previously involved with Uche Okoroha, Milton’s pod companion, before the show started, the duo who share a fondness for geology were the only ones who managed to maintain their relationship after the experiment.

Lydia exclaimed, “Marrying is realizing a cherished dream!” She was filled with overwhelming joy. Everything she desired seems to be within her grasp now. It’s as if I’ve found a place where I belong, where I feel secure.

As an analytically-minded engineer, Milton concluded, “The analysis of all the information points towards: this is the correct choice.

For this couple, opposites seemed drawn to each other throughout the entire season, that is, until their wedding day. Noticing Paul’s reservations, Micah requested that he express his feelings first, and unfortunately, Paul declined the proposal of marriage.

1. In simpler terms, Micah expressed that he feels incredibly overwhelmed or chaotic, just like a disaster.

2. Alternatively, if Paul had proposed marriage to Micah, there is no doubt in his mind that he would have happily accepted and said “I do”.

During the reunion, Paul expressed his regret for his remark made privately about not seeing Micah in a maternal role.

Paul clarified that he may not have expressed it well earlier, but what he truly means is that he doubts we could make good parents together.

After finishing the movie production, the pair temporarily patched things up, but eventually found it difficult to sustain their relationship. Later on, Paul clarified that they called it quits permanently when he went to see Micah in Arizona.

In the book “After the Altar“, it became clear that Paul had started seeing a new companion, who appreciated traveling and his culinary talents. Later on, he made their relationship public on Instagram by confirming his relationship with eyelash beautician Geneva Dunham.

Regardless of Kwame’s mother not attending the wedding or some questionable discussions with Micah within the pods, Kwame and Chelsea ended up being among the three pairs who exchanged vows at the close of season four.

At the gathering, Chelsea disclosed that she has recently become acquainted with her husband’s mother. Meanwhile, Kwame tendered an apology to his wife and her kin, admitting that his conversations with Micah weren’t the most favorable depiction of him.

The couple is living in Seattle with their beloved dog Rocky.

It’s sometimes said that love can be blind, but it may take a moment or even proposing to another person to understand that you’ve made a mistake. This is exactly what happened when Zack initially got engaged to Irina Solomonova, but the couple later split during their vacation in Mexico.

Following Bliss’ request for another opportunity, the duo braved the seemingly insurmountable odds (even going against Bliss’ father’s desires) and declared their love by saying “I do” at the altar. (They didn’t just stand there admiring each other, they danced to Lee Ann Womack’s “I Hope You Dance,” the song that connected them in the isolation pods.)

Following the airing of the final episode, Zack posted a picture of the couple on Instagram accompanied by the caption “Everlasting Happiness”.

In November 2023, the pair announced they were going to have their first child. Later, in April 2024, they introduced their beautiful daughter named Galileo Terri Rayne Goytowski into the world.

It seems like no other “LIB” pairing has felt as destined since the days of Cameron Hamilton and Lauren Speed!

In the study, the oldest pair – Tiffany who was 36 and Brett who was 37 – exchanged their vows, despite an unexpected wardrobe issue with Brett on their wedding day as his trousers didn’t fit correctly. Thank you, Lucia, the seamstress, for saving the day!

Since filming wrapped, Tiffany and Brett moved to Portland and are still perfect! Phew!

After SK said “I don’t” at their wedding, he and Raven seemingly parted ways.

Nevertheless, as the recording ended, it was disclosed that their past romance had been revived, with them being a couple once more, during the reunion special for season three.

Approximately a month later, the pair revealed their decision to part ways, citing ongoing legal issues related to infidelity accusations against SK. In a shared post on social media in November, SK and Raven requested privacy during this challenging period, stating that they are unable to disclose further details due to the ongoing court proceedings. They expressed gratitude for the support and interest in their relationship.

Spectators expressed disappointment as Jackie decided to offer another opportunity to Josh Demas, the other individual she had bonded with in the pods, by arranging a meetup with him, ultimately breaking off her engagement with Marshall.

At the reunion, Jackie clarified the sequence of events: “Marshall and I had already parted ways when I first encountered Josh at the coffee shop,” she explained. “I appear to be unfaithful, but let me assure you, I’m not a cheater.

Later on, Jackie acknowledged the conclusion of her relationship with Marshall, stating that she is ready to assume responsibility for her speech and behavior. In essence, she explained that their paths were simply not destined to align.

Regarding Jackie’s relationship with Josh, they were still going out and sharing a living space in the show “After the Altar”. However, Jackie revealed during an Instagram Live session held in September 2023 that their relationship had ended.

Regarding Marshall, he shared with TopMob that following the conclusion of the show, he had a brief encounter with fellow contestant Kacia Clark. He expressed, “We made an attempt,” Marshall stated, “However, I decided it was best for me to keep my distance from everything associated with that experience.

In “After the Altar”, Marshall disclosed that he has been in a relationship with Dr. Chay Barnes for a full year and desires to spend an eternity with her. Their engagement took place in December 2023.

Nancy and Bartise experienced one of the more dramatic weddings on “Love Is Blind,” yet it wasn’t due to the actions of the bride or the groom.

In the final episode of season three, it turned out that while Nancy was eager to tie the knot, Bartise wasn’t as certain about their relationship. This revelation didn’t go down too well with Nancy’s family, who openly expressed their disapproval towards Bartise without mincing words.

Regardless of their ups and downs, Bartise and Nancy have managed to keep a rollercoaster-like friendship going. As Bartise put it to TopMob, “We’ve transitioned from close friends to mere acquaintances, then to no contact at all, and now we’re back to being friends again.

In April 2023, Bartisse, a former contestant on “Perfect Match,” revealed the birth of his child named Hayden. However, he has not disclosed the mother’s identity in public.

Several months later, he debuted his new romance with Cait Vanderberry on Instagram.

Nancy is currently in a new romance, however, she hasn’t disclosed the identity of her partner to the public.

In the final episode of the season, people witnessed the marriage of Alexa and Brennon, surrounded by their dear ones.

In touching declarations, Alexa exclaimed, “You bring laughter, stimulate my thoughts, and above all, you bring joy to me.

In January 2024, the couple joyfully declared they were anticipating their first child, and little miss Vienna Ziva Lemieux made her arrival in July 2024.

Well, we can’t say we’re surprised by this breakup.

Throughout their romantic journey, there were frequent misunderstandings between them, leading to numerous disagreements. Despite reaching the wedding altar, Zanab expressed during the ceremony, “You have shown disrespect towards me. You have hurt my feelings with your insults. You have criticized me harshly. And to make matters worse, you’ve single-handedly destroyed my self-belief.

Cole later reflected on their tumultuous relationship.

He shared with TopMob News that despite encountering rough patches, they were making progress and discovering calmer seas. He expressed optimism that they could carry on their relationship even if they didn’t tie the knot on the specific day in question.

Colleen and Matt successfully exchanged vows in the season three finale.

In spite of the ups and downs experienced throughout their romantic journey, this couple was certain about their bond and joyfully declared their union by saying “I do”.

Colleen explained to TopMob News why she decided to proceed with the wedding: “The moment I saw him tear up and make those funny noises, I thought, ‘He’s mine.’ That’s when I knew I would be saying yes, and that was it for me.

And for those wondering, Colleen confirmed, “A year-and-a-half later, we’re very, very happy.”

During the season finale, Sal wasn’t able to say, “I do.”

In an TopMob News interview, he revealed that he was single after filming.

He asked, ‘Are we going to date in the future?’ I’m not sure yet about the strategy. I believe the most effective method might be avoiding online dating apps.
