Monster Hunter-Like, Live Service Action Game Dauntless Is Shutting Down This May

According to a formal declaration, Phoenix Labs has disclosed that their live-action game titled Dauntless will be ceased in May.

If you’re new to the game, Dauntless is similar to Monster Hunter. In this exciting title, players battle fearsome beasts and use the rewards from these battles to improve their character skills and gear.

Dauntless debuted on PS4, PC, and Xbox One in September 2019, garnering interest with its vibrant visual style and engaging gameplay mechanics. Yet, it failed to build upon its initial success, and its player base gradually decreased, even after transitioning to the PS5 in 2021.

Over those same years, Phoenix Labs has faced numerous challenges. The studio experienced layoffs on multiple instances, resulting in over 100 employees being let go in 2024 alone. Several projects were also scrapped, and despite promising ongoing support for Dauntless, signs of trouble were evident.

Phoenix Labs recently made a significant reduction in its workforce, with most of its employees being let go, as announced only last month.

For clarity, it’s important to note that as of the 29th May, 2025, the game Dauntless will no longer be playable. This is confirmed in an official statement which expresses gratitude for everyone who took part in the Dauntless adventure.
