You can swap Dragon/KO with another element that suits your Charge Blade’s affinity, but always remember to incorporate Critical Element. This Gem enhances the elemental damage on critical hits. With a Charge Blade, you’ll almost always score crits thanks to its AED or SAED moves, even with a 20% Affinity boost.

Emphasis on Critical Damage

To significantly boost the likelihood of critical hits and enhance their damage, we’ve incorporated a Level 3 Expert Jewel that offers extra Affinity. This feature allows us to bypass the initial 20% threshold of an Aritan Weapon, making critical strikes more achievable. Notably, Crit Jewels synergize exceptionally with Critical Element, a fundamental aspect in any Charge Blade setup. Here are some tips to keep in mind while using the Charge Blade build in Monster Hunter Wilds:

Always start an encounter with a mounting attack. Mounting lets you create multiple wounds on the monster and also grants you a free topple. It’s essentially a free opportunity to deal elemental damage to the monster. Mounting also lets you force the monster into a wall bang, albeit only if it’s near a wall or similar structure.
Always keep your Phials charged, and don’t waste them unless you see a proper opening. The bulk of your damage is going to come from AED combos. To perform those combos, you will need a full stack of Phials. We highly recommend overcharging the Phials when possible, to dish out additional elemental damage.
Do not overuse Double Rend. While the Focus Strike of the Charge Blade is quite powerful, it’s also very situational. You don’t want to waste the Double Rend until you have wounds to capitalize it on. The Double Rend leaves you in the Axe Mode, which can severely limit your mobility.
Lastly, always take a look at the Hunter’s Field Guide before setting out on a hunt. Make sure to keep at least two Charge Blades (Artian Weapons) prepped with different elemental affinities.
