What you need to know

  • Today, a 30-minute Sony State of Play broadcast showed off several games coming to PlayStation (and other platforms).

  • As part of that, we got to see what the new flagship monster is and also finally learned the officially release date for Capcom’s highly anticipated adventure.

As a seasoned video game analyst with over two decades of experience under my belt, I must say that today’s Sony State of Play has truly been a rollercoaster of emotions. The new Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak trailer was just the icing on the cake!

Today in Sony State of Play, we were treated to a fresh trailer for Monster Hunter Wilds. Towards the end of this sneak peek, it was announced that the game will be launched on February 28, 2025. One of the highlights of the trailer was a clear view of the game’s main monster, Arkveld.

On the Monster Hunter official site, it’s stated that Arkveld is commonly referred to within the Commission as “The White Phantom,” and it’s characterized by chains protruding from its wings. Previously believed to be extinct, much about its biology remains a puzzle due to the mystery surrounding its ecology.

The trailer initiates with a glimpse of a fresh team of hunters, busily moving about in what seems like an improvised camp. One character comments on how picturesque the forest is. In stark contrast, we then witness a torrential rainstorm that escalates the waters and makes nature appear more ominous.

A hunter encounters a formidable aquatic creature, often spotted during downpours, which thrives as the top predator in its watery environment. This creature is known as Uth Duna.

The action-adventure game, Monster Hunter Wilds, is scheduled to launch on Xbox Series X|S, PC via Steam, and PS5 on February 28, 2025. At the moment, there’s no information available regarding its availability on Xbox Game Pass. For more details about this title, please visit our Monster Hunter Wilds FAQ page.
