Summary
- Monster Hunter Wilds won’t have the option to play through the entire game in the series’ fictional Wyverian language.
- Executive director Kaname Fujioka explained that this is because they chose to focus more on story this time around, with the Hunter even having a speaking role.
- However, you’ll still hear certain Wyverian phrases integrated into the real-life languages.
As a passionate gamer, I’ve found myself immersed in the captivating world of Monster Hunter, where even the language seems magical. At first glance, it may appear as a jumble of sounds similar to Simlish, but upon closer inspection, Wyverian is richer and more intricate than one might initially think.
Over a considerable period, enthusiasts have meticulously accumulated numerous hours of conversation to understand the organization, diverse verbs, and even regional accents within Wyverian. It’s evident that significant effort went into creating this language, as multiple games offer an option for players to engage entirely in Wyverian, similar to English or Japanese.
Unlike previous Monster Hunter games, Monster Hunter Wilds is deviating from tradition. As reported by PC Gamer, it no longer features a dedicated story mode. Instead, executive director Kaname Fujioka has focused heavily on the game’s narrative. From the early stages of development, discussions have revolved around how the storylines are crafted.
It kind of wouldn’t make sense anymore.
As an ardent supporter, I appreciate the game creators for their innovative approach in making the player feel deeply involved. The dialogue, meticulously crafted in various human languages for regional adaptations, is indeed remarkable. For the first time, the Hunter character has voice lines, which adds a new layer of realism to the game. Changing it all to Monster Hunter language might disrupt the narrative’s coherence and logic as a storyline, making it less immersive for players like me.
There Are Still Traces Of Wyverian In Monster Hunter Wilds

In a positive twist, it appears Wyverian hasn’t completely vanished. Some of its expressions have been preserved and woven into the available real-world language choices instead.
In Fujioka’s words, “It continues to exist as part of this world,” meaning you may catch phrases from the original Monster Hunter universe being used casually among the characters, thereby preserving the authentic language of its world.
It’s uncertain if the Monster Hunter language will no longer be an exclusive option moving forward, but in Wilds, you shouldn’t anticipate playing the whole game using only Wyverian.
