Monster Hunter Wilds: Infinite Ammo & Easier Decorations – Gameplay Changes Revealed!

  • In an interview with IGN, Capcom revealed a few gameplay changes coming to Monster Hunter Wilds.
  • These changes include Bowguns getting infinite ammo for Normal, Pierce, and Spread ammo types, Bows getting infinite coatings, and being able to craft Decorations with lv.1 skills sooner than later.
  • Monster Hunter Wilds is the latest entry in the Monster Hunter franchise and is set to release on February 28, 2025, for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam.

On January 22, 2025, IGN conducted an exclusive chat with Kaname Fujioka and Yuya Tokuda, the art director/executive director and director respectively, of Capcom’s most anticipated game for 2025, Monster Hunter Wilds. In this conversation, they shared insights into the game’s design principles, particularly weapon designs, animations, and the overall immersive experience. Yet, at certain instances, they revealed some novel gameplay modifications that Monster Hunter Wilds will introduce to the series.

Here are some modifications in the gameplay that players might recognize from Monster Hunter World’s initial Open Beta Test, as well as fresh adjustments unveiled for the first time. Below are the crucial alterations you should be aware of, based on this interview.

Infinite for ranged weapon types

This interview unveils a new feature where both Light Bowgun and Heavy Bowgun weapons will now provide endless Normal, Pierce, and Spread ammo types. On top of that, the Bow weapon type will come equipped with an infinite supply of Coatings to enhance its shots.

In earlier games, you needed to create ammunition and coatings by utilizing materials found during hunting expeditions. But to ensure a smoother gameplay experience in Monster Hunter Wilds compared to its predecessors, they’ve transformed the weapon types so that basic damage sources now have an infinite supply, eliminating the need to return to your base camp to restock ammo.

To make specialized ammunition such as elemental, sticky, slicing, and status-inducing rounds, you’ll need to source the necessary crafting materials first.

Farming for Decorations will be made slightly easier

In simple terms, Capcom has confirmed that Monster Hunter Rise (Wilds) will feature a Decoration system similar to Monster Hunter World. Essentially, these Decorations are unique gems earned from completing missions, which offer players additional skills when added to their equipment.

In Monster Hunter Wilds, farming for Decorations was a significant challenge in the endgame, with obtaining desired rare Decorations being quite elusive due to their low probability.

In Monster Hunter Wilds, the process of obtaining certain Decorations is streamlined. Unlike in Monster Hunter World, you can craft Decorations with Lv.1 passive skills through alchemy at an earlier stage. This means you won’t have to rely on weapon or armor builds that may have compromised stats just to get the specific passive skills you desire for either damage or survivability, making your gameplay experience smoother and more flexible.

Easier Decoration endgame grinds and infinite Bowgun ammo? Sign me up!

Although dedicated long-range weapon enthusiasts might express a bit of discontent over the simplified ammo and coating management in Monster Hunter Worlds, I myself find this adjustment to the gameplay quite acceptable.

In Monster Hunter Wilds, unlike previous games, you won’t need to frequently return to camp to resupply on essential ammo types and coatings. This eliminates a significant amount of backtracking across the game’s expansive hunting biomes (which are said to be twice as large as those in Monster Hunter World). Instead, you can concentrate solely on your current hunt without disrupting the combat flow due to resource management.

Regarding decoration updates, it’s great to hear that Capcom has confirmed we can create decorations with Lv.1 skills in the base game itself, rather than having to wait for an expansion like Monster Hunter World: Iceborne. I recall spending months hunting for Ironwall Jewel Decorations in Monster Hunter World to improve my Charge Blade build’s defense, so I’m relieved that I won’t have to endure such a long grind again.

As an analyst, I am eagerly anticipating the arrival of the upcoming Monster Hunter title, scheduled for release on February 28, 2025, across platforms such as Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam. I can hardly wait to discover what exciting new monsters and gameplay mechanics this game will introduce when it launches.

If you’re eagerly anticipating sinking your teeth into Monster Hunter World, don’t forget to look into its second Open Beta Test. This test will have multiple testing sessions during early and mid-February.

As a dedicated fan, I’m thrilled to share that the highly-anticipated next-gen sequel to one of Capcom’s all-time greats, Monster Hunter World, is set to drop on February 28, 2025! This epic adventure will be available for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam. Can’t wait to embark on new hunts and conquer fearsome beasts once more!
