What you need to know
- Capcom has released the third video in Monster Hunter Wild’s weapon overview series, this time focusing on the Insect Glaive.
- The Insect Glaive is a weapon with a technical playstyle that allows players to perform acrobatic airborne attacks and commands a pet insect called a Kinsect to siphon extracts from an enemy and give them to the player to power them up.
- Monster Hunter Wilds is an upcoming action-hunting game that is set to release in 2025 for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam.
As a seasoned Monster Hunter veteran with countless hours spent honing my skills and battling colossal beasts across various games, I must say that the latest reveal of the Insect Glaive in Monster Hunter Wilds has me genuinely excited. The emphasis on aerial combat and the improved aiming reticule for the Kinsect are welcome additions, promising a more refined and strategic gameplay experience.
The forthcoming Monster Hunter Wilds, a new addition to Capcom’s highly successful Monster Hunter series, has unveiled its third trailer showcasing the game’s diverse selection of fourteen weapon types. Previously, we saw trailers for the Great Sword and Heavy Bowgun, and now we get a sneak peek at the Insect Glaive in the latest video.
The Insect Glaive is a weapon with an exceptional gameplay style that offers swift, agile ground attacks and aerial jumps to release powerful aerial abilities. Furthermore, this tool grants you command over a tiny combat companion known as a Kinsect during battle.
The unique feature of Kinsect is that it strikes enemy monsters during combat, siphoning off special substances from their bodies. These substances can be transferred to the player, granting significant boosts. Some of these enhancements are improved defense (represented by orange extracts), the ability to jump higher in mid-air for greater agility (white extracts), and stronger attacks (red extracts).
Based on the trailer, it appears that Monster Hunter Rise has significantly developed the Insect Glaive’s fighting style, similar to its gameplay in Monster Hunter World. The focus now seems to be on aerial combat, with the Kinsect functioning as an additional ranged weapon.
In Monster Hunter Wilds, the recent enhancements for the Insect Glaive feature a finisher move that resembles an arm cannon as you launch your Kinsect at the enemy (this is similar to the weapon’s Focus Strike attack), and a grab attack in which you leap into the air and cling onto the monster’s body, initiating repeated stabs.
Additionally, there’s a fresh, fashionable tactic involving impaling a monster’s body part following a high-altitude dive, followed by a spinning move to drive the Insect Glaive deeper into the monster’s skin for additional damage.
As a researcher, I’ve noticed an exciting enhancement in the Insect Glaive of Monster Hunter Worlds – a quality-of-life upgrade, if you will. Now, when you’re using your Kinsect to aim and fire at monster targets, the reticule will show the types of extracts located on the monster’s body. This means players won’t have to waste time guessing which body parts to target anymore, as was often the case in earlier games. Instead, they can remember more easily which parts are rich in extracts for their own power-ups.
Three weapon overview trailers down, eleven more to go
As each fresh weapon demonstration trailer unveils exciting new moves and refinements compared to past games, my anticipation for Monster Hunter Rise escalates. It leaves me curious about what more innovative strategies and features might be in store for the remaining weapon categories within Monster Hunter Rise.
It’s great news! Capcom is releasing a new weapon overview trailer daily, leading up to Gamescom 2024. They’ll unveil an exciting event trailer there. Stay tuned here on Windows Central, as we’ll delve into the details of all the new mechanisms and moves that will aid you in conquering Monster Hunter Wilds’ massive array of fearsome creatures.
In 2025, the highly anticipated follow-up to one of Capcom’s top-tier Xbox and PC games, Monster Hunter World, titled Monster Hunter Wilds, is set to debut on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and personal computers via Steam.
