The brand new game, Monster Hunter Wilds, has been released to widespread acclaim, particularly due to its unique feature of hunting monsters. However, some players are choosing an alternative route, using the customization options for their Palicoes to recreate and honor their deceased pets by giving them similar appearances.
From the get-go in Monster Hunter World, I’ve had the freedom to design my own Palico companion from scratch. The vast array of customization choices lets me unleash my creativity, crafting a buddy that truly reflects my unique style and vision.
Paying Tribute To The Loss Of A Friend
Instead of reenacting their preferred Pokémon for the combined joy of capturing and hunting creatures, some individuals utilize the character personalization option as a heartfelt homage to their departed pets, embarking on one last imaginative journey together.
Certain gamers posted pictures of their Palico companions looking like their cherished pets, finding solace in a game typically known for its rapid pace and high stress levels.
One individual also posted about their feline companion who had recently passed away, exactly a day prior to the launch of Wilds. They confessed that it had been an incredibly tough week for them, mourning the loss of their 15-year-old cat.
Yet, they appreciate the opportunity to interact longer with the feline, as it accompanies them within the game.
I’m unbelievably broken about losing her, but having her by my side in this journey makes me feel like she’s not gone. She may be gone from this world, but her memory lives on forever while she’s fighting beside me. That gives me so much peace, and I’m forever grateful to Monster Hunter for this.
That strongly resonates with me – it’s like playing every team in each generation, I’ve always made sure to include Pokémon that are similar to my own cats.
Comforting And Heartwarming
Inspired by that, others shared their similar experiences as well:
Lost my dear girl a couple of years ago and knew I would be dedicating my palico slot to her. The fact that they speak like humans now and how excited she gets is just very comforting in a weird way. I personify my pets, so I feel very connected to this little digital being, even if it’s not my late kitty.
Despite the Palicoes possessing distinctly feline or cat-like characteristics, it’s interesting to note that some individuals were able to create dog-like representations of them as well.
It’s touching to observe how people employ their imagination and the tools available within a game such as Monster Hunter Wilds, to merge the boundaries between virtual reality and daily life. This merging is used not just for dealing with the grief of losing cherished pets, but also for reaching out to others, encouraging them to discover ways to combat challenges in real life, similar to battling monsters within the game.
