Since you conclude the Low Rank main story at HR 8, this Event quest becomes available as soon as you ascend to High Rank.

However, there’s a small prerequisite: you must have successfully completed the initial High Rank quest, which involves capturing a Yian Kut-Ku. Once you wrap up that first High Rank mission, you’ll reach HR 9 and can embark on this Event quest. But remember, it’s advisable to hold off on attempting the Event quest at HR 9, especially if you’re new to the Monster Hunter series or still learning the ropes of its combat system.

Even though Rathian isn’t excessively difficult compared to monsters in Low Rank, it does represent a notable advancement. This Flying Wyvern not only packs a punch, but also boasts exceptional agility, capable of inflicting both Poison and Fireblight. Its tough hide also makes it immune to flinching, unless you’re using a heavy weapon. Given these characteristics, we advise taking on the Event quest once you’ve reached HR 21 and have crafted a strong enough build for High Rank.

Tips To Easily Complete Like a Fire Hidden by Sand Event Quest

In the quest named “The Hidden Rathian in Windward Plains,” you’ll encounter a standard High Rank Rathian. To increase your chances of victory, remember to equip Flash Pods and Nulberies. As with previous Monster Hunter games, the Rathian in Monster Hunter Wilds is a toned-down version of Rathalos. However, unlike Rathalos, this Rathian can poison you. Fortunately, it doesn’t linger in the air as long as Rathalos does, but to compensate, it occasionally poisons the Hunter(s), causing a significant decrease in HP for about 30 seconds.

To neutralize the poison, opt for a Nulberry. Interestingly, Rathian is susceptible to being stunned. This is where the Flash Pod becomes handy. Upon seeing Rathian soaring in the air, fire a Flash Pod promptly and it will bring Rathian crashing down instantly, offering you a chance to inflict damage and create openings. It’s worth noting that Rathian is vulnerable to Dragonblight as well. The monster’s head, wings, and tail are its weak spots, which are also prone to injuries.

The key to overcoming the Rathian lies in playing defensively and launching attacks only when there’s an opportunity. You can create these opportunities yourself by setting traps or using the Flash Pod technique. Moreover, inflicting wounds on it is a fantastic method to dish out both physical and elemental damage. The weapons that work best against the Rathian are those that deal significant damage:

1. Traps (for creating opportunities)
2. Flash Pod (for stunning it)
3. Weapons with high raw and elemental damage (for inflicting wounds)
