To engage with each monster, you’ll need to progress through different stages of the game’s narrative until you’re ready to face them.
In Monster Hunter Wilds’ online multiplayer mode, unless a distress signal (S.O.S.) is what you’re responding to, most monsters you come across will be as part of the main storyline. Throughout each chapter, both in the low-rank and high-rank tales, you’ll encounter new monsters that pose threats to the environments of various regions. As you first meet these creatures, you’ll gain access to quests for them within the narrative.

Progress Through Assignments To Find New Monsters
Monsters can be grouped into two main types – Big and Small. Alongside these, there are tiny creatures called Endemic Life that inhabit various maps. However, when we refer to “monsters,” we’re talking about any creature large enough to have a significant effect on an ecosystem. This can vary widely, from the smaller Ceratonoth herds in the Windward Plains to the enormous Alpha Doshaguma in Monster Hunter Wilds that can be found in the same location.
The tables below provide information about the 29 Large Monsters and 18 Small Monsters found in the game, including their locations, how to unlock them within the storyline, and the level of difficulty when facing these creatures as a solo opponent in assignments or optional quests.
The tables show details about the 29 big monsters and 18 smaller ones you can find in this game, telling where they are located, how to get them during the story mode, and their difficulty level when fighting against them alone in specific missions or side quests.
