Contrary to some assumptions, Monster Hunter Wilds won’t be an open-world game in the traditional sense. Although it will feature a more expansive structure than its predecessors, the developers at Capcom didn’t explicitly design it as an open-world title. Instead, they aimed to create the game they envisioned, without specifically targeting the open-world genre, according to series producer Ryojo Tsujimoto in an interview with IGN.
Tsujimoto stated that the term “open world” wasn’t used during development, but the goal was to provide a seamless Monster Hunter experience. The final product took shape as we worked towards achieving our desired features.
Art director Kaname Fujioka emphasizes the smoothness of the “Monster Hunter Wilds” gameplay by using terms like “uninterrupted Monster Hunter experience.” Similarly, he employed phrases such as “uninterrupted map” and “uninterrupted stages” to describe “World.” In comparison, earlier versions of “Monster Hunter,” up to “Generations Ultimate,” featured maps with more distinct segments, where players encountered loading screens during transitions between different zones within a single map.
According to director Yuya Tokuda, “Making large spaces wasn’t our initial intention when we developed World. Instead, what grew to be vast and intricately connected were the areas as we meticulously portrayed the world of Monster Hunter. What truly sets Monster Hunter apart isn’t just its expansive size, but its richness in detail.
We’ve worked hard to ensure each stage in our game is richly detailed, offering you numerous discoveries as you explore. You’ll encounter interactive elements, targets for actions, and visually appealing aspects everywhere you go. I believe this level of detail helps create the immersive world and ecosystems found in Monster Hunter.
Fujioka and Tokuda discussed how the game’s freer design would make player hunts feel more intense. This is because, unlike previous versions, players can begin and end hunts spontaneously without having to return to base camp. As a result, players will encounter monsters in a more natural setting, observing them living in their native habitats.
The video game titled “Monster Hunter Wilds” is being worked on for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. In preparation for its launch on February 28, a second open beta test will take place in February. For additional information, let me share some details about the console graphics settings for this game.
It’s important to mention that the upcoming open beta won’t include changes or upgrades made to the game based on feedback from the initial test. These enhancements, which encompass performance optimizations, gameplay adjustments such as increased hit stop while attacking monsters, and weapon reworks like lance and switchaxe, will only be present in the final version of the game upon its release.
