Monster Hunter Wilds’ Post-Launch Roadmap: A Wild Card Unveiled

The trailer for “Monster Hunter Wilds” was unveiled during the February 2025 State of Play event, and the game is set to be released very soon. Players have been wrapping up their participation in the open beta tests for “Monster Hunter Wilds”, which were extended due to a PlayStation Network outage. Anticipation for this expansive version of “Monster Hunter” has never been higher, and it’s lucky for the eager gaming community that only a few days remain before “Wilds” officially debuts.

The launch trailer emphasizes showcasing why it’s worthwhile. Nearly every weapon and monster previously unveiled gets a turn in the limelight, along with some enigmatic creatures yet to be fully explained, such as a new version of Monster Hunter’s iconic creature, Rathalos. Watching all the weapons from Monster Hunter Wilds in action, plus snippets of multiplayer antics and hints at the game’s intriguing narrative, has effectively stoked excitement levels. What remains is for Monster Hunter Wilds to deliver on that anticipation, followed by regular updates post-launch as per the series’ tradition.

What’s Coming Up After Monster Hunter Wilds’ Launch

The main focus of the State of Play for Monster Hunter Wilds was its launch trailer, but it also revealed some initial details about its free update plan. Similar to previous games in the Monster Hunter series, special events and content updates have been a staple since the beginning, and it was assumed that Wilds would follow suit with updates similar to MH World and Rise. Starting just a week after the launch of Wilds, limited-time Event Quests offering unique armor rewards will start appearing, with more expected over the next couple of years. These are where Monster Hunter typically introduces its crossover cosmetics, so players should keep an eye out for them.

New Monsters Will Quickly Join MH Wilds’ Roster

The initial significant update for the game titled “Monster Hunter Wilds” is set to launch in spring 2025, and it will bring back Mizutsune, a slick Leviathan known for blowing bubbles. Another monster and additional Event Quests are also planned for the second free update in summer 2025. Further details about new quests, monsters, and other upcoming features will be revealed soon. This outlines the key points from the first roadmap of “Monster Hunter Wilds”, assuring us that it will maintain its traditional post-launch approach, but providing limited information for now. The roadmap ends with a hint, “To be continued…

Monster Hunter Wilds’ First Roadmap Isn’t Very Helpful

Withholding Information Has Made MH Wilds’ Early Updates Unpredictable

In the tradition of Monster Hunter series, visual guides (or roadmaps) are commonplace, and this pattern continues with titles like Monster Hunter World: Iceborne, Rise, and Sunbreak. However, the first Title Update roadmap for Monster Hunter Wilds is particularly light, even by their minimal standards. With the main game launching soon, updates based on this roadmap will follow suit. Despite our experience with previous games indicating that Wilds should carry on as normal, it’s difficult to predict exactly what’s in store at this point.

There remains a degree of uncertainty concerning how Monster Hunter Wilds manages Low Rank and High Rank, given its expansive open map which encourages players to linger in between quests. The initial roadmap doesn’t provide much clarity on this matter. It’s worth mentioning that in the past, Monster Hunter updates have introduced unannounced creatures unexpectedly, so the promise of Mizutsune for Title Update 1 does not guarantee that’s all we can expect. The reference to “additional updates” as part of the spring Title Update also leaves room for speculation. In essence, the launch of Monster Hunter Wilds with some enigmas attached is not necessarily problematic, but it does pique curiosity about Capcom’s plans for this flagship title.
