If you’re participating in Samin and Dareel’s unique research-related side quests within “Monster Hunter Wilds,” you’ll eventually encounter the Special Research Report mission assigned by Samin. This walkthrough explains how to catch the Sandstar, where it can be found, when it becomes available, the tools we used for catching, and additional details. Rest assured, there will be no story spoilers in this guide.
Monster Hunter Wilds Samin’s Special Research Report side mission guide
In simpler terms, Samin’s Research Task is an optional mission found at Samin’s tent within Windward Plains’ main camp. To finish this task, you must catch a Sandstar, which can be challenging but proper preparation will significantly ease the process. Successfully capturing the Sandstar rewards you with the “I Caught a Shooting Star!” trophy or achievement.
Where is the Sandstar in Monster Hunter Wilds
The Sandstar is a tiny critter resembling a rodent that emerges only during nighttime on the Windward Plains. It usually appears close to area 13. Having the Oasis fast travel point from the Pop-up Camp can simplify matters. From there, you can peer beyond into the plains as illustrated in my image (with the white border), and endeavor to locate the faintly glowing blue object near a rock.
Since this creature rarely appears, you may have to teleport a few times from one location to another within the Windward Plains during the night. Alternatively, you can wait for nightfall by resting at the Oasis camp to streamline your search.
How to capture the Sandstar in Monster Hunter Wilds
In a nutshell, the Sandstar is incredibly swift and elusive, making it challenging to catch even while running or riding your Seikret. The most effective strategy is employing Screamer Pods in its vicinity, similar to using Flash Pods. Upon deployment of Screamer Pods and firing them near the Sandstar, it becomes stunned. This offers a brief window for you to swiftly deploy your capture net and secure the Sandstar. Successfully capturing it will reward you with a trophy and achievement, allowing you to complete Samin’s quest.
How to unlock the I caught a Shooting Star trophy and achievement in Monster Hunter Wilds
You earn this trophy by seizing the Sandstar, even though you don’t necessarily need to complete the accompanying mission for its rewards. These rewards are distinct from each other.
How to get Screamer Pods in Monster Hunter Wilds
To make capturing the Sandstar simpler according to my suggestion, venture into the Windward Plains during daylight. On your map, locate Baunos. Employ your slinger on these tiny creatures to gather Screamer Pods.
