As a seasoned veteran of the Monster Hunter universe, I can confidently say that the latest reveal at Gamescom 2024 has sent my adrenaline soaring! The new trailer for Monster Hunter Wilds promises a thrilling journey through the Forbidden Lands, and I am beyond excited to tackle those new monsters, the Lala Barina and Rey Dau.

2024’s Gamescom convention has begun, offering a rich assortment of updates and previews for multiple games. Among these, Monster Hunter Wilds, the latest installment in Capcom’s Monster Hunter series, received a new trailer during the Opening Night Live event.

The trailer begins by showing us a glimpse of the game’s story. In Monster Hunter Wilds, a band of hunters are traversing a treacherous realm known as the Forbidden Lands in search of a hunting expedition that went missing there.

In this trailer, our protagonists face two unprecedented monsters not previously featured in Monster Hunter games. The initial beast is the Lala Barina, a colossal spider-like creature dwelling within the Scarlet Forest. This menacing creature ambushes its victims with paralyzing venom and lethal stingers.

In Monster Hunter Wilds’ Summer Game Fest trailer, we’ve caught brief glimpses of a monster yet to be fully revealed, but now it’s unveiled – the Rey Dau. This colossal Flying Wyvern is the top predator of the Windward Plains and launches attacks on its prey when sandstorms occur in the region. Its unique method of attack involves shooting lightning bolts from its head.

Apart from these creatures being incorporated into the roster of monsters in Monster Hunter Wilds, this trailer also discloses that the game will feature Support Hunters as Non-Player Characters (NPCs). This mechanic was initially introduced in Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak, enabling solo players to have NPC hunters accompany them during quests. Now, it seems this functionality is returning for Monster Hunter Wilds.

As a tech enthusiast, I’m thrilled that Turf Wars, the epic clash mechanism from Monster Hunter World, is making a comeback in Monster Hunter Rise! In Turf Wars, when specific monsters lock eyes in the same territory, they engage in a spectacular showdown, dealing colossal damage to each other. Players can manipulate this feature by guiding monsters towards one another, allowing them to wear each other down, making it easier for us to deliver the finishing blow!

I can’t wait to hunt these new monsters

In the game Monster Hunter Wilds, the upcoming monsters are nothing short of awe-inspiring. It’s exciting to note that Lala Barina is a new addition, a large insect monster, to the game’s already impressive roster. Notably, giant monsters in most Monster Hunter games often boast captivating designs and the weapons derived from defeating them are not just visually striking but also equipped with beneficial status effects that can hinder enemies effectively.

Concerning the Rey Dau, I’m equally amazed by its sleek appearance and apprehensive about its formidable lightning assaults. It seems this menacing creature will serve as the initial significant challenge for players, testing their proficiency with the Monster Hunter Wilds arsenal of weapons and determining if they possess the tenacity needed to advance through the game’s narrative.

For novice players diving into the series, there’s no need to fret about confronting these monstrous creatures. Supportive NPC Hunters are on hand to lend a helping hand should it be required. In my experience with Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak, these NPC companions proved to be quite proficient and helpful, so I am confident they will offer the same assistance in Monster Hunter Wilds.

Regardless of the method, I can hardly contain my excitement about confronting these beasts, whether it’s a one-on-one battle, teaming up with NPCs, or joining forces with other players in online cooperative play when Monster Hunter Wilds debuts for consoles and PC next year.

The upcoming game, Monster Hunter Wilds, which follows the success of Capcom’s highly acclaimed Xbox and PC titles like Monster Hunter World, is set to debut in 2025 on platforms such as the Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and personal computers through Steam.
