Monster season 3 announces more cast including The Night Manager star

As a devoted fan of true crime narratives and a connoisseur of Ryan Murphy’s captivating storytelling, I couldn’t be more thrilled about the third season of Monster. The casting announcements for “The Original Monster” have me positively giddy, especially with the addition of Laurie Metcalf, Tom Hollander, and Olivia Williams to the roster.

Despite stirring up quite a bit of controversy with its first two seasons, including the latest installment on the Lyle and Erik Menendez case (Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story), Ryan Murphy’s Netflix anthology show Monster has already secured a third season for its popular true crime series.

For this upcoming season, we’ve decided to name it “The Original Fiend” and concentrate on the chilling story of American serial killer Ed Gein, featuring Charlie Hunnam as our main character.

Recently, some exciting new cast members have been unveiled for the upcoming series. Laurie Metcalf from Lady Bird, Tom Hollander known for The Night Manager, and Olivia Williams recognized in The Crown have agreed to take on significant parts, as reported by Variety.

In the upcoming series, Hollander is set to portray a well-known character, while Williams takes on the role of Alma Reville, Hitchcock’s wife. Given that Gein served as one of the initial inspirations for the character of Norman Bates in Hitchcock’s renowned film Psycho, it’s reasonable to anticipate that the series will delve into this intriguing connection.

Meanwhile, Metcalf will be playing Gein’s mother, Augusta.

In recent months, Hollander has had the opportunity to portray a renowned creative character in a Ryan Murphy production for the second time. Previously, he assumed the role of Truman Capote during the second season of one of Murphy’s anthology series, titled Feud.

This is the first occasion where Metcalf and Williams have been featured in any of the renowned producer’s collection of works.

In a recent interview with Collider, Murphy revealed that filming would begin later this month and explained why Gein was chosen as the subject of season 3.

Following our discussion on the Menendez case, Ian and I found ourselves pondering a question: “When and where did our fascination with serial killers originate? How did it all begin?” This was his reflection.

From our findings, it was Ed who initially achieved such stardom, captivating audiences from the instant of his arrest. His fame was unprecedented. Later, we discovered that he was driven, though it turned out he suffered from schizophrenia. The circumstances surrounding his rise to fame made for a fascinating tale.

Edward Gein was an American criminal, suspected of being a serial killer, whose horrific acts later served as dark inspiration for various fictional movie characters such as Norman Bates, Buffalo Bill, and Leatherface.
