As a seasoned movie critic with decades of experience under my belt, I must say that historical accuracy is one of those details that can either make or break a production for me. While I understand that creative liberties are often taken to enhance storytelling and visual appeal, it’s crucial not to let such liberties overshadow the authenticity of the narrative.

Fans streaming the complete second season of Ryan Murphy’s Netflix anthology series “Monsters,” specifically “The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story” from the second season, have been discussing a potential historical inconsistency within one of the episodes.

The moment in question was picked up on Reddit by a viewer posting a screengrab of a sequence in which it seems a Ring Doorbell camera can be seen in the shot.

Since the series takes place in the 1980s and 1990s, but the company Ring didn’t exist until 2011, any device resembling a camera in that context would stand out significantly as an anachronism, or something that doesn’t belong to that time period.

One fan said that the historical inaccuracy “brings me back to the good ole’ Starbucks cup in Game of Thrones“, referencing a scene in that show’s eighth season where a Starbucks coffee cup was clearly visible in one of the shots in the broadcast episode.

A Redditor commented, “Perhaps the siblings simply transported themselves 30 years ahead for that particular scene. It’s a possibility, isn’t it?

The initial season of Ryan Murphy’s anthology series, initially titled Monster, delved into the tale of serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer. However, this second installment narrates the true account of Lyle and Erik Menendez, who were found guilty in 1996 for the 1989 murders of their parents José and Mary Louise ‘Kitty’ Menendez, which took place in their Beverly Hills residence.

Netflix has greenlit a third season for the show “Monsters,” with Charlie Hunnam reprising his role as the notorious serial killer Ed Gein.

You can now stream the series “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story” exclusively on Netflix. To start enjoying it, sign up for Netflix at just £4.99 per month. Additionally, you can access Netflix on Sky Glass and Virgin Media Stream as well.
