Moon Knight Creator Reveals Exciting Plans to Revive a Beloved Marvel Series!

For quite some time, it appeared as though the X-Men and Avengers wouldn’t share the silver screen. This was due to Fox owning the rights to mutants and the Fantastic Four, making a joint venture highly improbable. However, everything changed when Disney bought 20th Century Fox, which opened up opportunities for Marvel Studios to integrate numerous renowned characters. Although it took some time to initiate, there’s been significant advancement over the past couple of years. Most notably, Deadpool and Wolverine have paired up, and the Fantastic Four are preparing to enter the action.

As a die-hard film enthusiast, I can’t help but get excited about what’s brewing on the horizon! For instance, Jake Schreier, director of Thunderbolts*, is set to reboot the X-Men with a script by Michael Lesslie, who penned The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Yet, that’s not all we have to look forward to! Jeremy Slater, the brain behind Disney+’s Moon Knight and a writer on the 2015 Fantastic Four, is eager to animate an underappreciated Marvel team – if given the opportunity, of course.

In an interview with egmr.ru, Slater mentioned a character or team from the Marvel Universe he’s always been interested in: “I’ve always wanted to work on Excalibur,” he said. “Excalibur was my favorite comic when I was collecting them, and it was always available at my military base. Besides Excalibur, I also enjoyed reading Spider-Man, Fantastic Four, and X-Men reprints by Claremont, which were called X-Men Classic.

In the late 1980s, a group of prominent superheroes known as Excalibur emerged when it was believed that the X-Men had perished. This team primarily consisted of Shadowcat, Nightcrawler, Rachel Summers, and Captain Britain, along with other mutants. They were based in the United Kingdom but weren’t afraid to venture elsewhere if they sensed someone required their help.

As a devoted fan, I found the notion of mutants venturing independently utterly intriguing. “This book is pure genius,” I exclaimed. “Nightcrawler and Kitty Pryde are my top X-Men picks, so the prospect of crafting a tale involving these two remarkable characters against the expansive Warwolves multiverse backdrop was truly captivating. Not only did they boast an impressive roster of villains, but their innovative and fearless approach to storytelling allowed for the bizarre and unusual. Moreover, the character dynamics were engagingly soap-operatic, offering a rich tapestry of drama that I found irresistible.

Although it might still be a while until Nightcrawler and Kitty Pryde make their main appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the thought of an Excalibur project is intriguing, particularly if it lands on Disney+ – a platform where Slater thinks it would fit well.

An Excalibur Show Has the Potential to Get Marvel’s Streaming Content Back on Track

As a die-hard Marvel fan, I found the concept of transitioning the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) to TV series post “Avengers: Endgame” intriguing. With so many storylines left unresolved and limited film slots, it seemed like a smart move. However, as time went on, Disney+’s Marvel shows started to stumble, leading the decision-makers to dial back their production. Nowadays, there’s a noticeable decrease in new Marvel Studios series gracing Disney’s streaming platform, and those that do feel disconnected from the big-screen action.

Things can always change: If Marvel Studios wants to make the most of the X-Men characters, they should first develop them as a group on the big screen. Instead of creating a standalone Shadowcat series, they could incorporate her story into an Excalibur show that focuses on several mutants. This team can embark on their own adventures and then reunite for an event movie at the X-Mansion.
