More Anime Gear Is Coming to the WWE Thanks to New Day

As a long-time gamer and anime enthusiast, I must admit that the latest news about the New Day wrestlers expressing their love for anime and potentially creating an anime series of their own has me absolutely thrilled! The idea of seeing Big E, Kofi Kingston, and Xavier Woods in animated form, perhaps even battling it out as characters from popular anime franchises like Dragon Ball Z or My Hero Academia, is just too exciting to comprehend.

Although no official World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) anime series has been produced, numerous wrestlers have proudly displayed their affection for anime through their costumes. Notable examples include Zelina Vega, Ricochet, Omos, and many others who have graced the ring in apparel inspired by popular anime franchises. Among these wrestlers, none made a more striking impact with their crossover tributes than the New Day trio. In a past bout, Xavier Woods, Kofi Kingston, and Big E donned armor reminiscent of characters from Dragon Ball Z. During this year’s Netflix Geeked Week, Xavier and Kofi shared their enthusiasm for potential new anime-themed outfits in future matches.

When asked about other pro wrestlers wearing anime costumes, Xavier Woods jokingly began by saying, “Welcome everyone. It’s great to have you here. As for anime, there are two we’d be keen to emulate. The first is Yu Yu Hakusho and the second is Attack on Titan. For Titan, we thought about something similar to ‘Giant Gonzalez’, where we could wear skin suits like he did but with a Titan twist. If we went for Yu Yu Hakusho, perhaps we’d opt for the Toguro Brothers, and I believe I would prefer to be Yusuke Urameshi. Since Kingston hasn’t watched Yu Yu Hakusho yet, I think he might suit the character of Hiei.

The New Anime Day

Beyond Xaiver’s suggestions, Kofi also had some personal preferences, “I lean more towards My Hero Academia, with characters like Deku and Bakugo being so compelling. We even enjoyed Dragon Ball before, although we didn’t delve too deep due to the abundance of characters.” As New Day continues to dominate the WWE, their fondness for anime is evident, and while it’s uncertain which series their new attire will emulate, the secret remains to be unveiled.

When asked about a potential “New Day Anime”, the duo of popular celebrities expressed great enthusiasm, saying, “Absolutely! If we got to choose the studio for this project, our top pick would be the team behind The Boondocks.” This series aired on Adult Swim from 2005 to 2014 and was initially produced by Adelaide Productions for the first three seasons, with the fourth season created by Studio Mir. Notable works of Adelaide include Jackie Chan Adventures, The Spectacular Spider-Man, and Godzilla The Series, while Studio Mir has contributed to X-Men ’97, The Legend of Korra, and Harley Quinn. Either studio would bring exceptional animation skills to the WWE‘s New Day.

Why Were The New Day At Geeked Week?

Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston have undeniably proved their geek status, yet they didn’t attend Geeked Week to announce they’d joined the casts of Netflix’s “One Piece” or “Avatar: The Last Airbender.” Instead, members of New Day were there to take part in the event and publicize that WWE’s Monday Night Raw will be available exclusively on Netflix. Although a New Day anime hasn’t been confirmed, the fusion of these two worlds could potentially lead to an anime adaptation featuring Big E, Kofi Kingston, and Xavier Woods at some point in the future.
