As a movie critic, I’m thrilled to share my thoughts on the upcoming blockbuster, “Avengers: Doomsday.” This film promises an impressive lineup of stars, one of the most stellar in any Marvel Studios production. The ensemble seems poised to expand even further, hinting at a potential influx of talent yet unannounced.
Robert Downey Jr., reprising his role as Doctor Doom, expressed his amazement at the sheer talent amassed by directors Joe and Anthony Russo in an Instagram post featuring today’s colossal cast reveal. He speculated that there might still be room for more actors to join the ranks.
Intriguingly, the official Marvel Studios account responded to Downey’s comment, suggesting a possibility of another wave of announcements in the near future, leaving us fans eagerly awaiting further details.
Downey referred to it as a deep pool of talent, but he actually meant it’s more like an extended row. Seems accurate, right? But there’s always room for more, Marvel added.”

To honor the kickoff of “Avengers: Doomsday” filming, Marvel Studios hosted a unique live broadcast to announce the movie’s star-studded cast. Over multiple hours, the livestream showcased chairs with actors’ names written on them. The event brought together numerous talented actors from different MCU Multiverse Saga productions (such as those from “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” and “Thunderbolts”). Notably, “Avengers: Doomsday” will also welcome back notable performers from the Fox X-Men films, including Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen.
During today’s livestream, Marvel enthusiasts were certainly pumped about the upcoming projects, but there were notable absences in the cast announcement that left fans questioning. Although Benedict Cumberbatch had previously announced his return for Avengers: Doomsday, he was conspicuously absent from the video. Additionally, no actors associated with the Guardians of the Galaxy or Spider-Man were featured, leading some to speculate about whether certain characters might be underutilized in future stories.
It seems Marvel Studios might be hinting at something more with their recent actions, suggesting there could be additional actors joining the blockbuster movie. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Marvel isn’t done announcing the entire cast yet, which strengthens the belief that we can expect further additions. However, the exact timing of this second announcement remains uncertain. If Marvel Studios decides to attend San Diego Comic-Con again, it could be a perfect opportunity for them to reveal the new cast members on the Hall H stage. But, it’s also possible that Marvel may choose to do something before then. Since Anthony Mackie mentioned that Avengers: Doomsday will film through the summer, it might have wrapped by Comic-Con in late July. Perhaps when the Russo brothers finish their work, they might unveil the rest of the cast as a celebration.
Regarding potential cast members for upcoming Marvel projects, Benedict Cumberbatch seems a likely choice based on his past comments. Additionally, leaked artwork from the MCU hints at Star-Lord and Vision being part of an anticipated second wave, possibly featuring Chris Pratt and Paul Bettany. Contrary to rumors, Chris Evans has denied any return for a future Marvel project titled “Doomsday,” but fans remain hopeful. Despite excitement about the reunion of these iconic stars in “Avengers: Doomsday,” concerns arise over how the film will manage so many elements effectively without sacrificing quality. With numerous characters involved, fans fear their favorites might be underserved. However, given the Russos’ past successes, there’s optimism they may have found a way to pull off this complex narrative.
