Morgan Wallen Snubs SNL Cast, Joe Jonas Steps In

Morgan Wallen had some help from Joe Jonas.

On the March 29 edition of Saturday Night Live, the original country singer who was the musical guest had to be substituted by a former Disney Channel star, as he declined participating in the “Big Dumb Line” musical scene, reports suggest from various sources.

The brief digital segment showcased guest host Mikey Madison, along with SNL stars Bowen Yang and Chloe Fineman, mimicking the long queues experienced at trendy pop-up shops sprouting up throughout New York City.

TopMob News has reached out to reps for NBC and SNL and has not heard back.

It’s uncertain what led “I Had Some Help” singer to decline the sketch, but his decision didn’t just create a small wave; rather, it sparked a significant reaction following his Saturday Night Live appearance. In fact, Wallen caused quite a commotion when he abruptly left the stage as the end credits were playing, bypassing the usual hugs and farewells to the cast and crew.

A short while later, he posted an image of a private plane on a runway with the caption, “Transport me to the land of God” on Instagram. This mysterious message sparked much debate about whether his departure was premeditated.

Despite Wallen not making any public comments about his sudden departure, SNL’s longest-serving cast member, Kenan Thompson, shared his thoughts on this exciting development.

In a conversation with Entertainment Weekly, he expressed his confusion over people making such choices, saying, “It’s hard for me to fathom their thought processes. I can’t tell if he truly grasped the task at hand or if he was emotionally driven in some way.

Thompson remarked that he attempted to understand the situation, also thinking it was possible that Wallen might have needed to use the restroom.

He went on to say, “This is clearly an exception to the usual trend.” He explained that they are accustomed to people praising them and patting each other on the back. So when things don’t go as expected, it’s a bit puzzling and makes him curious about what’s happening.

He added, “Seems like a complicated individual, I guess.”

On March 29th, 2025, I graced the stage of Saturday Night Live as their musical guest alongside host Mikey Madison. As our episode came to a close, after saying my farewells to viewers, I shared a brief moment with Mikey, then unexpectedly stepped off the stage – deviating from the usual tradition of mingling with the cast during the credits. Later that night, I posted a picture of an airplane on the runway to my Instagram Stories and simply captioned it, “Get me to where God resides,” expressing my desire to return to my roots in the country music scene.

In April 2024, Wallen was taken into custody due to accusations that he had hurled a chair off the rooftop of Chief’s bar in Nashville; this information was released by police. Approximately a week and a half later, the Grammy nominee took to social media to discuss the incident.

On April 19, 2024, he wrote: “I didn’t feel it was appropriate to post an update until I had made amends with certain individuals. I have contacted Nashville law enforcement, my loved ones, and the management at Chief’s. I’m not proud of my actions, and I acknowledge my role in them.”

In December 2024, Wallen admitted guilt to two charges of misdemeanor reckless endangerment related to the chair-throwing incident. As a result, he received a probation sentence of two years and was ordered to serve seven days at a DUI education center.

After a video surfaced showing Wallen using a racial slur in February 2021, he expressed remorse and apologized to his fans, stating, “I made a terrible mistake. I used a hateful and offensive term that I deeply regret. There’s no excuse for such language, and I vow to do better.”

His apology was met with condemnation from country music artists, radio stations dropped him, his label suspended his contract, and he was barred from several award shows that year. In a subsequent Instagram video, Wallen acknowledged the power of words, saying, “Words can cause real pain, and I understand now that my words have hurt people deeply. The stories I heard this week about personal experiences from Black individuals left me shaken and with a newfound understanding of the impact my words can have.

In October 2020, it was planned for Wallen to appear musically on SNL>, but when pictures and videos showing the artist partying in Alabama appeared online, he was removed from the show due to not adhering to its COVID-19 safety measures.

In a video posted on social media at the time, Wallen explained, “I received a call from the show saying I wouldn’t be able to perform anymore. It’s all because of COVID protocols, which I understand.” He further added, “I’m not infected with COVID, but my actions over the weekend were short-sighted and clearly impacted my long-term aspirations.”

The artist acknowledged his mistakes, stating, “On a more personal note, I feel like I need to grow up a bit. I think I’ve lost myself in some ways. I’ve tried to find happiness in the wrong places, and it’s left me with less joy. So, I’m going to try to work on that. I’m going to take a break from the spotlight for a while and focus on myself.”

Eventually, Jack White took his place as the musical guest, but Wallen got another opportunity to perform on SNL in December. He even made light of the situation during one of the sketches.

A former contestant on The Voice was detained last May for public intoxication and disturbing the peace following an incident at Kid Rock’s Big Ass Honky Tonk Rock N’ Roll Steakhouse. The arrest warrant, obtained by The Tennessean, claims that Wallen had been breaking glassware and engaging in verbal disputes with passersby on the street.

In a statement posted on his social media platform X at the time, Wallen expressed his apologies for the incident. He stated, “I just wanted to set things straight. I went out downtown with some old friends last night, we visited a few bars, and after a while, we were having a bit of fun among ourselves. We didn’t mean any harm, and we apologize to anyone who was affected by our actions.”

The charges against Wallen were later dismissed in July 2020, as per online court records from the Howard Gentry Criminal Court Clerk in Tennessee.

In 2016, it was reported that Wallen was taken into custody in Tennessee for suspicion of driving while intoxicated. Yet, the court documents indicate that the charge against him was dropped later that same year.
