Mortal Kombat 1 Dev Finished with PS5 Fighter, Moving to Next Project

As expected, Mortal Kombat 1 developer NetherRealm Studios is moving on from its PS5 fighter.

When our favorite team unveiled the Complete Edition of the game earlier this month, I thought for sure that was the end of the line for any additional DLC or expansions. This, even though the series creator, Ed Boon, had promised the game would continue to receive “years of support”.

After roughly 20 months since its launch, the company has made it official: they will make necessary adjustments and repairs going forward, however, the studio considers the initial release to be complete.

Although we know this might be disheartening for our fans, our team over at NetherRealm must redirect their attention towards our upcoming project so that we can make it exceptional.

Rumor has it that they’re developing a fresh Injustice game, which seems long overdue given that the last installment in the DC fighting series was released nearly a decade ago. In our opinion, NetherRealm Studios may have erred by releasing Mortal Kombat 1 so swiftly after Mortal Kombat 11, as there simply wasn’t enough demand for it.

Despite some fans expressing disappointment that the latest fighter’s support is wrapping up quickly, others are reacting in a more optimistic manner, appreciating the studio’s hard work and urging it to put forth its best effort for their future projects.
