As a longtime Mortal Kombat enthusiast who grew up playing the game since its 90’s debut, I am absolutely thrilled with the recent freebies being dished out to us fans! It’s like Christmas came early with Ed Boon handing out these classic skins from the original movie. The Smoke skin just dropped and it’s a blast from the past that brings back nostalgic memories of my youth. I can’t wait to see what next week holds, but until then, I’ll be rocking this 95′ Smoke look on the battlefield!
Players of Mortal Kombat 1 on Nintendo Switch, PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S have an unexpected treat awaiting them when they launch their game. The recently released Mortal Kombat game from NetherRealm Studios is nearing its anniversary, and to mark the occasion, a new expansion titled Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns will be available next month. This expansion will add two characters, Cryax and Sektor, to the roster. In anticipation of this release, celebrations have already begun with free downloadable content for all players, regardless of their platform.
On social media platform X, Ed Boon (the game’s creative director and one of the original creators) announced that some free skins would be given out. As a result, Mortal Kombat 1 players have received a skin modeled after the 1995 film character Smoke for free today. However, it appears this skin might be swapped with a new one next week, though we’re yet to learn what that will be.

According to Ed Boon’s recent post, a free skin has been available for around several weeks. The exact end date of this promotion isn’t clear yet, but it marks the second time a classic skin from the 1995 movie is being offered. The first instance showcased Scorpion in his ’95 appearance.
