As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of Mortal Kombat under my belt, I can’t help but feel a rush of nostalgia as I witness the return of two iconic characters – Cyrax and Sektor! The latest trailer for Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns has certainly whetted my appetite for next month’s release.
In the upcoming month, the game titled “Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns” is set to be launched, and upon its arrival, players can expect the inclusion of characters Cyrax and Sektor. Today, a trailer was unveiled by developer NetherRealm Studios, offering a detailed glimpse into Cyrax’s gameplay mechanics, as well as providing some insights into her background story. The trailer commences with Cyrax and Sektor being sent by Bi-Han to attack the wedding of Kuai Liang. This serves as the highlight of the trailer, with Johnny Cage uttering the memorable phrase, “we are not doing the Red Wedding,” in a nod to the tragic Game of Thrones episode. However, this reference is lost on Kung Lao.
Afterward, the trailer transitions into a fight scene between Cage and Cyrax, showcasing her arsenal of moves. As previously hinted by Ed Boon at SDCC last month, Cyrax appears to have undergone significant changes, yet she still retains “her explosives, missiles, nets, the whole lot.” We also catch a glimpse of a Fatality move, where she cruelly stomps on Johnny Cage’s head, twists it to snap his neck, resulting in decapitation. She then kicks the head back towards Cage’s body, and when it rebounds towards her, crushes it underfoot. That’s pretty intense!

The trailer offers several clues about the storyline’s development. Notably, it seems that Cyrax and Sektor will find themselves on opposite sides by the end of the DLC, making their interactions intriguing. Fans of Mortal Kombat have noticed some alterations in the character of Sub-Zero when Khaos Reigns is released, but NetherRealm has yet to reveal specific details about these changes.
Chaos Rules is set to reintroduce Animalities in the series, and at the end of the trailer, we catch a glimpse of the transformation Cyrax will undergo. Although we don’t see much of it in action, Cyrax will assume the form of a hornet. This seems quite fitting considering the character’s black and yellow color scheme!
