Mortal Kombat 1 Leak Reveals Previous Kombat Pack 3 Plans

As a seasoned Mortal Kombat player, I’ve seen my fair share of twists and turns in the game’s universe, but this latest leak has left me reeling. If true, the cancellation of Kombat Pack 3 feels like a gut punch to long-time fans who’ve stuck with the game since its inception. The prospect of new characters like Jade, Cassie Cage, Kung Jin, Sonya, and even Kano (not to mention the mystery guest character) joining the roster was incredibly exciting.

A recent leak disclosed the potential plans for Kombat Pack 3 of Mortal Kombat 1, as originally conceived by NetherRealm Studios. In the past day, a significant source within the Mortal Kombat community claimed that all proposals for future DLC content related to MK1 were abandoned due to disappointing sales of the latest expansion, Khaos Reigns. This decision not only halted development on a new story expansion but also cancelled Kombat Pack 3, which aimed to expand the fighter roster in Mortal Kombat 1. Recently, this same source has shared details about the characters that would have been included in Kombat Pack 3 if it had been launched.

On Reddit, a user named Fate Unknown, who has accurately predicted details about Mortal Kombat 1 in the past, shared more insights about the game’s previous DLC plans. Reportedly, Kombat Pack 3 was intended to include six new characters in total. Half of these characters were going to be from older Mortal Kombat games and the other half would have been a guest fighter from another franchise. This focus on MK characters in Kombat Pack 3 was supposed to be a gesture of appreciation for loyal fans who had supported the game since its debut. However, it appears that these dedicated fans will not receive this reward as Kombat Pack 3 is no longer being developed.

Fate Unknown stated that the initial plan for the final Kombat Pack consisted of six fighters, five from Mortal Kombat and one special guest. However, there will be fewer guests because of various reasons, primarily as a token of appreciation to fans who have continued to support the game. The confirmed Mortal Kombat characters are Jade, Cassie Cage, Kung Jin, Sonya, and Kano. The identity of the guest character is yet unknown, but it’s said they aim to include a popular fan favorite.

Besides the chaos reigning, Fate Unknown suggests that there were other unspecified factors pushing NetherRealm away from Mortal Kombat 1. It was hinted that some members of NetherRealm weren’t content with having to abandon the DLC plans for Mortal Kombat 1.

In the future, Fate Unknown asserts that they will not disclose any more information concerning MK1. So far, their record of sharing details about Mortal Kombat 1 has been impressive, but it’s important to remember to approach this claim with caution, just in case it turns out to be untrue. If NetherRealm decides to address any information presented in this report, we’ll make sure to keep you informed here on ComicBook.
