Mortal Kombat 1 Update May Have Teased DLC Fighters for Kombat Pack 3

As a seasoned Mortal Kombat fan who’s seen more than a few tournaments and character roster expansions, I can’t help but feel a thrill of anticipation at the latest developments surrounding Mortal Kombat 1 (MK1). The recent update hinting at possible DLC characters has me reminiscing about my old arcade days when the arrival of new fighters was as exciting as a fresh slice of pizza after a long gaming session.

It seems a recent update on Mortal Kombat 1 might hint at additional DLC characters coming in a potential third Kombat Pack. At present, NetherRealm Studios is developing Kombat Pack 2 for MK1, featuring Noob Saibot, Cyrax, Sektor, along with guest fighters like Ghostface, Conan the Barbarian, and the T-1000 Terminator. Furthermore, a story-oriented expansion titled Khaos Reigns is underway, but it’s unclear if any more DLC beyond this lineup is being considered. However, if the recent update for MK1 is anything to go by, NetherRealm might be setting up additional characters to join the game later on.

In a recent video on YouTube’s FutureBoyWho channel, it has been pointed out that NetherRealm Studios may have altered Cassie Cage’s model for Mortal Kombat 1. Although Cassie Cage isn’t playable or a Kameo fighter in MK1, she does appear briefly in the game’s story mode. Due to data mining, it has been discovered that her appearance within the game has been adjusted in some way. Interestingly, these game files show a higher-resolution version of Cage than previously seen, suggesting that NetherRealm may be planning to introduce Cassie as a new DLC character in future updates.

In the earlier version of Mortal Kombat 1, there were indications suggesting potential new characters. One such character who was previously mentioned is Jade, a long-standing fighter in the Mortal Kombat series. Interestingly, Jade does not appear in the most recent Mortal Kombat game, but there’s a possibility she could be introduced as downloadable content later on.

Despite no official confirmation about a third Kombat Pack for Mortal Kombat 1, it appears quite plausible judging from director Ed Boon’s past comments. At San Diego Comic-Con in 2023, Boon hinted that NetherRealm Studios might extend the post-release support for Mortal Kombat 1 beyond what they provided for Mortal Kombat 11, which only received two Kombat Packs. This suggests a strong possibility that Mortal Kombat 1 could indeed receive a third DLC pack.

First, it’s important to note that Kombat Pack 2 needs to be fully released before any subsequent event occurs. As for the release date of Khaos Reigns, it is scheduled for Mortal Kombat 1 on September 24, 2024. At that time, Sektor and Cyrax will join the roster as well.
