Mortal Kombat 1 Won’t Receive Any More Story DLC or Characters, NetherRealm Focused on Next Project

For quite some time, there had been whispers and it became almost expected with the arrival of the Definitive Edition. However, NetherRealm Studios has officially confirmed that Mortal Kombat 1 will not receive any additional DLC characters or story chapters.

Although we’ll keep working on refining and fixing issues, our team is now shifting their attention towards creating our next project with the aim of making it exceptional. We realize that this news might not meet your expectations, dear fans.

Introduced in September 2023 on Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PC, and Nintendo Switch, Mortal Kombat 1 serves as a reboot of the series’ timeline. It introduced Kameo Fighters as assist characters and a new mode, Invasions, to cater to a seasonal format. The game garnered praise for its graphics and narrative, but fans expressed reservations regarding the mechanics, numerous glitches, and aggressive monetization strategies.

In September 2024, an expansion titled “Khaos Reigns” was launched alongside “Kombat Pack 2”. However, this release also faced criticism for its brief narrative and high price point of $50. It appears that another expansion and “Kombat Pack 3” were supposedly in the works, but they seemed to have been canceled due to low sales of “Khaos Reigns”.

Hey fellow gamers! Here’s an exciting bit of speculation from the gaming community: I’ve been hearing some whispers that NetherRealm Studios might be brewing up another installment in the Injustice series. But remember, it’s just rumors at this point, so keep your fingers crossed and stay tuned for official updates!
