In just one week, we’re set to experience the early access debut of T-1000 in Mortal Kombat 1, and NetherRealm Studios has just dropped a complete gameplay trailer, offering a deep dive into the DLC character. Although a brief teaser for T-1000 was released in February, today’s trailer is notably longer, providing a more detailed glimpse. For those unsure about purchasing the character, this video offers a better sense of how he will perform within the game and how his design mirrors his origins from Terminator 2: Judgement Day. Fans of the James Cameron film appear to have plenty to look forward to!
In the film “Terminator 2,” the T-1000 model was nearly invincible due to its unique feature of being made entirely out of liquid metal, which enabled it to change shape. This shape-shifting capability will play a crucial role in how T-1000 fights in “Mortal Kombat 1,” as he can transform parts of his body into weapons such as blades, spears, and spikes. In the latest trailer, we catch a sneak peek at one of his deadly finishing moves, or Fatalities. Here, T-1000 transforms into his opponent before pushing a metallic finger into their eye – a nod to a kill from “Terminator 2.” However, in a quick succession, T-1000 also references another death scene from the movie by impaling its enemy through the mouth. In an exciting twist for “Mortal Kombat 1,” T-1000 uses this method to split his opponent in half! You can watch the full trailer using the link provided below.
In typical fashion for gameplay previews, NetherRealm hinted at T-1000’s special ability, Animality, in the trailer. Although we didn’t get to witness the complete transformation, T-1000 is shown transforming into a German Shepherd police dog. Towards the end of the video, we see the police dog biting Johnny Cage’s arm and then pulling the arm behind its back. The idea of having T-1000’s Animality take the form of a K-9 is quite clever, and it will be intriguing to see this transformation fully unfold in the game.
As a diehard Mortal Kombat fan, I’ve been eagerly awaiting the arrival of the T-1000 in the Khaos Reigns expansion for MK1. There’s been quite a buzz around whether we can expect more content down the line or if this is it for the game. Whispers suggest that WB Games might not have seen the DLC sales they were hoping for, and that NetherRealm could be gearing up to shift focus onto their next project after T-1000 and Madam Bo Kameo Fighter drop. Yet, nothing’s been officially confirmed just yet.
Just like with previous DLC packs for Mortal Kombat 1, the T-1000 character will be accessible a week early for players who own the Khaos Reigns expansion. If you’re planning on purchasing the character individually, you can do so, but you’ll have to wait until March 25th to play it.
