Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection announced for PS5, Xbox Series, Switch 2, PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC

Digital Eclipse, a developer under Atari’s ownership, along with Warner Bros. Games, have officially unveiled the “Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection” for platforms such as PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam. The game is scheduled to release in 2025.

Mike Mika, head of Digital Eclipse studio, stated in a press release that “Mortal Kombat” fundamentally reshaped the terrain of video games. He described it as bold, shocking, and unwavering. It signified a massive change in interactive entertainment, propelling the industry towards a more daring, mature direction. This impact is still felt in game design and cultural discussions today after three decades. With “Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection,” our goal was not only to preserve its legacy but also to provide context – enabling players to explore its beginnings, witness its growth, and admire the groundbreaking vision that turned it into a worldwide symbol. For us, this project serves as both homage and proof of its enduring influence.

Under the supervision of Digital Eclipse, authorized by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection compiles a wide range of games from the series’ initial period, including original arcade games, famous Super Nintendo Entertainment System and SEGA Genesis home versions, as well as releases on Game Boy, Game Gear, Sega 32X, Game Boy Advance, and additional platforms. These titles have been updated with user-friendly features for a smoother gaming experience. Moreover, online support featuring rollback netcode will be incorporated into numerous arcade and console editions.

The “Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection” not only offers you the thrill of the game but also includes an interactive documentary that delves into the series’ extraordinary history. This documentary features unique concept art, historical video clips, and both new and vintage interviews with creators like Ed Boon, John Tobias, Dan Forden, and John Vogel, as well as many others. Together, they share one of gaming industry’s most fascinating backstories.

Alongside providing insights into the creation process of the games, Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection will also delve into the legendary battles that unfolded among the Elder Gods, Outworld, Edenia, and Earthrealm during the arcade era. To further immerse players, it will offer comprehensive guides for character histories. Additionally, each game in the collection will come with additional, optional user-friendly features to improve gameplay experience.
