Mortal Kombat: Onslaught is Shutting Down in October

As a long-time fan of NetherRealm Studios and Mortal Kombat, I’m deeply saddened by the news that Mortal Kombat: Onslaught will be shutting down. I’ve spent countless hours playing this team-based action RPG spinoff since its launch last October, enjoying every moment of the immersive gameplay and engaging with fellow players in the community.

Recently, it came to light that NetherRealm Studios, known for creating popular games like “Mortal Kombat” and “Injustice,” had closed down its mobile development team. This closure resulted in over 50 employees being let go. The future of the several live service mobile projects the studio was managing became uncertain as a result, with one title confirmed to be ceasing operation.

Mortal Kombat: Onslaught, the team-based action RPG spinoff from NetherRealm Studios, is being discontinued. Launched last October on iOS and Android, the game will no longer be available for purchase starting July 22. In-game microtransactions will remain until August 23. After that, on October 21, the game will be completely shut down, rendering it unplayable.

There’s uncertainty about the future of NetherRealm Studios’ other mobile projects, Mortal Kombat Mobile and Injustice 2, considering the current situation. It could be imprudent to remain hopeful regarding their prospects at this point in time. Keep an eye out for further information.

Mortal Kombat: Onslaught will be taken offline on October 21, 2024. The game will no longer be available for download on the App Store and Google Play starting July 22, 2024. In-app purchases will be disabled on August 23, 2024. Until then, fans can continue playing. We’ve appreciated bringing this game to our community.
