As a die-hard Mortal Kombat fan who has lived through countless battles and seen the rise and fall of many champions, I can confidently say that I am beyond excited for the upcoming sequel, Mortal Kombat 2! The first movie was a thrilling ride, but it seems like the creators have truly listened to the fans this time around. With Mehcad Brooks reprising his role as Jax and the addition of Karl Urban as Johnny Cage, we are in for a treat.

Get over here! Because it’s almost time for a sequel to 2021’s Mortal Kombat movie…

In approximately a year from now, Mortal Kombat 2 is set to hit the big screen in October 2025. Starring Mehcad Brooks, who will once again portray Jax, the actor has emphasized that this film will surpass its prequel.

In our follow-up movie, we’re addressing all areas that needed improvement based on fan feedback, staying faithful to the established lore, and with Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon present during production, we promise an experience that truly resonates with the video game.

Debuted in April 2021, the initial Mortal Kombat film – inspired by the massively successful series of combat video games – centered around main character Cole Young (Lewis Tan), who embarked on a quest to find a group of selected fighters tasked with protecting Earth from the extraterrestrial realm known as Outworld.

In the movie, Brooks portrayed Jax Briggs, a Special Forces soldier equipped with potent bionic limbs. He was accompanied by Tan, and for the sequel, additional cast members have been added, among them is Karl Urban from ‘The Boys,’ who plays the beloved character Johnny Cage.

Brooks expressed his excitement about Mortal Kombat 2, stating that we’ve assembled a phenomenal cast, an exceptional stunt team, crew, and fight coordinators, all of whom are the best in the industry. As a result, he anticipates that this production will be simply over-the-top fantastic.

I believe the Warner Bros movie will resemble the style of Marvel films. Trust me, it’s fantastic! It offers humor, emotion, and plenty of action!

In addition to starring in the Mortal Kombat series, Brooks also portrays Detective Jalen Shaw on NBC’s police drama, Law & Order.

Filming for Mortal Kombat 2 started in June 2023, but it was temporarily halted in July due to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike. After the strike ended in the fall of 2023, production resumed. However, Brooks had to juggle shooting Law & Order in New York and wrapping up the Mortal Kombat sequel in Australia during this period.

In the midst of our ongoing work, we were forced to pause temporarily, resuming only in September or October. During this period, I frequently traveled between Australia and New York, wrapping up Mortal Kombat 2 and filming episodes for Law & Order. This routine was repeated three times between October and January.

“On separate occasions, I arrived in Australia one day, shot there, and then flew to New York the following day for another shooting session. This pattern repeated itself three times!

Mortal Kombat 2 will be released in cinemas on 25th October, 2025.
