Mr Bates star Will Mellor meets real-life victims in Surviving the Post Office

As a movie lover who has always been intrigued by real-life stories, I find the new BBC documentary and podcast series “Surviving the Post Office” to be a must-watch. The fact that Will Mellor, an actor I’ve admired for years after seeing him in shows like “Inspector George Gently,” is involved in this project makes it even more appealing.

In the BBC’s upcoming documentary and podcast series, Will Mellor, who previously portrayed subpostmaster Lee Castleton in “Mr Bates vs The Post Office,” will have the opportunity to interact with Castleton and other real-life subpostmasters.

In the documentary and podcast titled “Surviving the Post Office,” Mellor journeys to East Yorkshire to encounter Castleton and in County Durham to connect with former Post Office employee Stephanie Gibson. There, he listens to their accounts and learns about their determination to regain command over their own lives.

After that, he plans to visit Lincolnshire, West Sussex, and Cornwall to connect with three additional subpostmasters. During these meetings, he will investigate the financial setbacks they experienced, but also empathize with their emotional journeys as they attempt to heal and discover sources of unexpected support.

Mellor expressed in a release, “It was an honor for me to listen to the personal accounts of these families, as I deeply connect with them.”

After encountering numerous subpostmasters, I was taken aback by the extensive reach of the consequences – the significant toll on individuals’ health, families, and entire communities has been profound.

In Surviving the Post Office, Castleton expresses to Mellor, “I harbor anger over what transpired, but I don’t wish to be burdened by it for the remainder of my days. I long to savor more life and delight in it, and the children deserve a fully present father.”

Tonight, July 22nd, BBC One and BBC iPlayer will broadcast the documentary at 8:3pm, while the podcast series on BBC Sounds is already accessible for listening.

Another documentary about the post office scandal is set to air after the ITV drama has been released, making it through this documentary’s production is not the only option available.

Based on my experience working as a journalist covering legal and social issues, I’m truly excited about ITV’s upcoming series, Mr Bates vs The Post Office: The Impact. As someone who has reported on various cases of injustice and the fight for financial compensation, I can only imagine the profound impact this four-part documentary will have on the lives of the subpostmasters it features.

Surviving will be shown on BBC One and BBC iPlayer at 8:30 pm on Monday, 22nd July.”)
