In this season of “Doctor Who,” Anita Dobson’s character, Mrs Flood, is playing a significant part. Previously introduced as Ruby Sunday’s neighbor in the first season, Mrs Flood sparked curiosity among fans at the end of “The Church on Ruby Road” when she acknowledged the TARDIS by breaking the fourth wall. Since then, Mrs Flood has subtly hinted at her sinister intentions towards the Doctor, suggesting a plot to bring about the Doctor’s terrifying downfall. Throughout Season 2, Mrs Flood has been persistently tracking the TARDIS as it embarks on a desperate mission to return Belinda Chandra home.
Ever since the debut of Season 2’s “The Robot Revolution” episode of Doctor Who, the TARDIS has been encountering issues. While Ncuti Gatwa’s Fifteenth Doctor was attempting to return Varada Sethu’s Belinda Chandra home on May 24, 2025, the TARDIS kept veering away from Earth on that exact date. The conclusion of that first episode unveiled a grim reality that had so far escaped both the Doctor and Belinda Earth has been obliterated. As the TARDIS disappeared at the end of “The Robot Revolution,” remnants of well-known landmarks floating through space became visible in the emptiness of space, hinting at Mrs Flood’s involvement in this destruction. However, it seems the Doctor may also play a crucial role in this mystery.
Is Mrs Flood Using The Doctor’s Vindicator Against Him?
The Doctor’s Efforts to Get Belinda Home Might Have Destroyed Her Home
In “Doctor Who”, Season 2, Episode 2, titled “Lux”, when the TARDIS failed to bring Belinda back to her original time, the Doctor devised an alternate plan. He built a device within the TARDIS control room and called it the Vortex Indicator or “Vindicator” for short. The idea was that once they landed, this gadget would form a direct link to May 24, 2025, drawing the TARDIS towards it. However, as shown in Episode 3, “The Well”, the Vindicator didn’t function quite as intended. Despite this setback, the Doctor decided to make another brief stop – this time 500,000 years into the future.
On their arrival at Planet 6767 during its distant future, the Doctor took another measurement with a Vindicator device. Mrs. Flood, who turned out to be a superior officer among the troops they encountered, seemed particularly pleased by this at the end of the episode. Later, when inquiring from one of the troopers named Mo about the Doctor and his possessions, Mrs. Flood showed her an image of the Vindicator. When Mo confirmed that the Doctor indeed had it, Mrs. Flood expressed delight, calling the presence of the Vindicator “excellent news.” This could imply that the Doctor’s Vindicator plays a role in Mrs. Flood’s plans for the Doctor and Earth.
It appears that Mrs. Flood, who made an appearance in “Lux,” could be the evil force orchestrating the destruction of our planet, Earth. Her persistent interest in the Doctor’s Vindicator suggests that she might be manipulating every device the Doctor is employing to return to Earth, and tragically, these tools may be aiding her in executing her destructive plans. It has been disclosed that Earth will meet its end on May 24, 2025, coincidentally the same day the Doctor is utilizing the Vindicator for his journey. This situation could involve time travel paradoxes where the cause and effect are reversed: The Doctor is locking onto May 24 using the Vindicator unknowingly, thereby unwittingly providing Mrs. Flood with a direct path to Earth to bring about its destruction – a disaster that may have necessitated his need for the Vindicator in the first place.
The Vindicator Destroying Earth Continues a Doctor Who, Season 1 Trend
Is the Doctor Inadvertently Helping His Enemy Once Again?
In the inaugural season of the revamped “Doctor Who,” a new enigmatic character named Susan Triad, portrayed by Susan Twist, accompanied the TARDIS as it traveled through time and space. While Twist played several roles throughout the season, her most developed character was seen in episodes titled “The Legend of Ruby Sunday” and “Empire of Death.” It wasn’t until later that we learned this mysterious woman was actually Sutekh’s Angel of Death, who had been tethered to the TARDIS since the 1975 events on “Pyramids of Mars.” Capable of causing death wherever the TARDIS had previously arrived, she erased life across the universe at every historical moment where the ship touched down.
In simpler terms, Mrs Flood might be manipulating the Vindicator much like Sutekh’s Angel of Death manipulated the Doctor’s TARDIS against him. The Doctor thinks the Vindicator is a means to safely return Belinda Chandra home, but it could also have caused her home’s destruction. This device may lead Mrs Flood to a specific moment in time when Earth is vulnerable, potentially being used by her to destroy Earth. If this is true, the Vindicator’s power could be responsible for Earth’s demise, which would be a crushing blow for the Doctor, recalling the sorrow he felt when he discovered his TARDIS was used to wipe out the universe in “Empire of Death.
