Ms. Marvel Season 2 Gets a Disappointing Update (What’s Next for Kamala Khan?)

In a recent interview with Screen Rant, Aramis Knight, who played Red Dagger in the Marvel Cinematic Universe series Ms. Marvel, expressed some disheartening news about potential season 2. When asked about future prospects within the Marvel franchise, Knight conveyed his readiness to rejoin if given a chance, but admitted that the delay since the debut of Ms. Marvel might suggest Red Dagger’s story has come to an end. Additionally, Knight mentioned that he had been in position to resume his MCU role on multiple occasions, but various circumstances prevented this from happening.

Knight responded with a hint of doubt when asked about his MCU future, saying, ‘I hope not, but it seems likely.’ He admitted he’s unsure due to the passage of time and various issues such as logistics, COVID-19, and creative differences that prevented his planned appearances. However, he expressed a desire to return and added, ‘I’m just waiting for the call, honestly.’

In 2022, Ms. Marvel made her debut on Disney+, introducing Kamala Khan to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The series garnered rave reviews, particularly for its distinctive approach and Iman Vellani’s portrayal of the lead character. Following this successful run, Vellani will reprise her role as Kamala in 2023’s The Marvels, a movie where she joins forces with Carol Danvers and Monica Rambeau for an exciting new mission. By the end of the film, Kamala contemplates inviting Kate Bishop to join her in forming the Young Avengers.

Since her appearance in “The Marvels”, there hasn’t been any sighting of Kamala, but her character was mentioned during the first season of “Daredevil: Born Again”. In a memorable bank heist episode, Matt Murdock had a short conversation with Kamala’s father Yusuf Khan. It is disclosed that Kamala is spending time with friends in California at the moment. As of now, it remains uncertain when Vellani will reappear for another Marvel production.

Since the debut of “Ms. Marvel”, I’ve noticed some significant shifts in Marvel Studios’ strategy. It seems even Kevin Feige recognized that the amount of MCU content was starting to feel like homework for viewers, so he’s opting for a “quality over quantity” philosophy now. This means we can expect fewer movies and TV shows each year, with Marvel being more discerning about what gets the go-ahead. The underwhelming performance of “The Marvels” at the box office, with only $206.1 million worldwide, has cast doubt on the prospect of a sequel (whether film or series). This leaves us questioning the future of Ms. Marvel within the MCU. At this point, it looks like she might be assigned a supporting role in a movie or show instead.

It’s likely that Kamala might reappear in either “Avengers: Doomsday” or “Avengers: Secret Wars,” according to speculation. However, at the moment, there are no confirmations about Vellani’s role in “Doomsday,” as revealed by Marvel in late March. But more casting announcements are expected later on, so there’s a possibility that she could be included in those updates. If not, it seems we might have to wait until after “Secret Wars” to see her again. The upcoming Multiverse Saga could pave the way for introducing the Young Avengers team.
