After a successful run in cinemas during the holiday season, Disney’s hit movie “Mufasa: The Lion King” is set to stream on Disney+ soon. This photo-realistic prequel film by Academy Award winner Barry Jenkins was announced for streaming release by Disney on Tuesday. Excitingly, the premiere date for “Mufasa” is coming up very soon!
As a cinephile, I’m thrilled to share that “The Lion King” as Mufasa knows it will be gracing the Disney+ library in about two weeks! The grand streaming debut is set for March 26th. Interestingly, this follows closely on the heels of another major addition to Disney+ from the recent holiday season – “Moana 2”, which raked in over $1 billion at the box office, will be available for streaming starting March 12th, a mere two weeks prior.
The upcoming releases of both “Mufasa” and “Moana 2” on streaming platforms are being viewed as significant victories for movie theaters, since they mark a return to longer theatrical runs before streaming premieres. Notably, “Mufasa” will have a pre-streaming run of 96 days, while “Moana 2,” which stands to be more financially successful, was granted a theatrical run of 105 days. Lately, Disney has been offering the longest theatrical runs, and it’s hoped that this will influence other studios to follow suit with their major film releases.
Apart from the digital streaming debut of “Mufasa”, Disney plans to release the movie in full physical format one week later. Specifically, on April 1st, “Mufasa: The Lion King” will be available for purchase in 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD formats.
