As a long-time Halo enthusiast with countless hours spent battling the Covenant and exploring the rich lore of this iconic franchise, I can hardly contain my excitement at the news that not one, but multiple new Halo games are in development! The shift to Unreal Engine 5 promises to elevate the visual and gameplay experience to unprecedented heights, and the commitment to early player feedback is a welcome move that will undoubtedly result in more polished and enjoyable games.
343 Industries, which we’ve known for some time is developing the next instalment of the Halo series, hinted earlier this year at having several projects underway. More recently, they’ve officially changed their name to Halo Studios and confirmed that indeed, there are multiple projects in development within their studio.
In the future, all Halo game titles will be constructed using Unreal Engine 5. Over the past few years, Halo Studios have been dedicated to creating a comprehensive technical demonstration known as Project Foundry. Recently, they’ve disclosed that they are working on several full-fledged Halo games simultaneously.
Following the guidance of studio head Pierre Hintze, Halo Studios is now adapting its approach and no longer concentrates all its energies on one specific project. Thanks to the move to Unreal Engine 5, the company is presently working simultaneously on several game titles.
He mentioned that our efforts were too heavily concentrated on preparing for the success of Halo Infinite. By moving to Unreal, we can redirect all our attention towards crafting numerous high-quality new experiences instead.
COO Elizabeth van Wyck further elaborated that Halo Studios is going to focus more on obtaining feedback from players at the initial stages of their projects. She emphasized, “We’re aiming for earlier and broader feedback from our players.” This approach was initiated with ‘The Master Chief Collection’ and continued with ‘Halo Infinite’, and they wish to extend it even further in their upcoming projects. Essentially, she pointed out that it isn’t just about how we assess the projects, but also about how the players evaluate them.
At this stage, it’s anybody’s guess what the various upcoming Halo projects might be. It seems likely that a new mainline title in the series, possibly referred to as Halo 7, will be among them. Additionally, rumors suggest that another remaster of Halo: Combat Evolved could also be underway.
