MultiVersus Update Adds Aquaman, Lola Bunny, and New Game Mode

Contrary to the unexpected cancellation of the game just a few days ago, MultiVersus is pushing forward with their Season 5 plans, introducing two new characters and a fresh game mode. The Warner Bros.-inspired brawler received a positive response during its beta phase, but encountered turbulence on its way to full release. Issues with in-game transactions led fans to step back from the free-to-play combatant, despite the inclusion of beloved characters such as The Powerpuff Girls and Raven from Teen Titans. However, with Season 5 marking its final major update, the game has finally incorporated two much-requested (and leaked) characters into its extensive roster.

Today, we unveiled the official details for Season 5 of MultiVersus, versioned as 1.5.0. You can find comprehensive information about this season, which spans from February 4th to May 30th, here. This new season introduces two fresh characters to the roster: Aquaman (a Tank type) from DC and Lola Bunny (a Bruiser), hailing from Looney Tunes. Remarkably, these two characters are accessible for free with the Season Pass, which doesn’t require any payment, unlike previous passes. Additionally, a new game mode called Target Rush has been introduced for Wacky Weekends. This exciting 2v2 match pits players against each other in a race to break as many targets as possible. The available maps include Tower, Arena, and Bowl.

It’s quite surprising to see Lola Bunny and Aquaman joining the roster of 35 (previously 33) in MultiVersus. While Aquaman is a well-known member of DC’s Justice League, alongside Wonder Woman, Superman, and Batman, it was unexpected that Flash wasn’t included, which would have completed the group. Lola Bunny, the popular female counterpart of Bugs Bunny, has been the subject of rumors for quite some time now, and she was unfortunately leaked a few weeks before her official announcement. Regardless, both characters are solid additions to the final season, even though their inclusion may not have been initially planned.

The MultiVersus project turned out to be quite a bold endeavor, managing to accomplish several of its objectives successfully. The game made a significant impact on Steam during its debut weekend and throughout the month of July, even in beta form. Fans were thrilled to witness characters from beloved series such as Game of Thrones and Steven Universe engage in battles, set against distinctive backdrops like the Tree Fort from Adventure Time and the Batcave. However, many fans were disappointed when the beta, which spanned a year from July 2022 to June 2023, was shut down to make way for the official release.

Earlier mentioned, by May 2024 when it was fully launched, fans criticized the monetization and felt that the game wasn’t what it seemed during the beta. Regrettably, it became evident that MultiVersus might struggle due to its negative impact on Warner Bros.’ underperforming profits. However, there is a silver lining as new features are being added, which will make the game more enjoyable for those who continue playing, even though the online services will eventually be discontinued.

The game “MultiVersus” can be played on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S until May 30th, after which it will no longer be available. To stay updated about MultiVersus, DC, and more exciting content, make sure to check back here at ComicBook.
