You see, GrayCris is pursuing the leftover alien artifacts that Ratthi (Akshay Khanna) pinpointed at the end of Murderbot season 1, episode 2. As Ratthi clarified, these alien remnants are safeguarded by galactic law, making it unlawful to exploit them for profit. In essence, GrayCris is attempting to illegally acquire the alien remnants, and they eliminated DeltFall to keep their illicit operation concealed. If all other surveyors on the planet perish, then no one would ever notify authorities about the presence of these alien remnants, allowing GrayCris to carry on their profitable scheme undetected indefinitely.

Although Murderbot instructed Mensah (Noma Dumezweni) and PreservationAux to retreat to the hopper, Mensah intends to revisit the scene and rescue Murderbot from the GrayCris SecUnit. Mensah’s affection for Murderbot is growing, leading her to make a daring move to protect it.
As a devoted cinephile following the storyline in “All Systems Red,” I eagerly await the return of the intriguing character known as Murderbot and its companions, PreservationAux. You might recall an incident involving GrayCris’ SecUnit attempting to install a combat override module on Murderbot. In a desperate bid to safeguard both itself and PreservationAux from any potential catastrophe, the SecUnit resorted to a drastic measure: shooting itself in the chest to thwart the override.

Gurathin Is Interested In Mensah & Acts As A Parallel To Murderbot’s Awkwardness
As a devoted film enthusiast, I found myself utterly bewildered during episode 3 of Murderbot, particularly when it came to the enigmatic character Gurathin, played by David Dastmalchian. Despite staying behind, Murderbot managed to observe him via the hub’s security feed. What followed was a deeply unsettling scene as I watched Gurathin sneak into Mensah’s room and sniff her pillow. Even the usually indifferent Murderbot expressed discomfort, uttering “this is truly depressing“. It appeared that Gurathin harbors romantic feelings for Mensah, an unusual way of trying to bridge the gap with his unrequited love by seeking out her “pheromones”. This intriguing subplot wasn’t present in “All Systems Red”, leaving its authenticity uncertain.
It’s quite plausible that Gurathin has feelings for Mensah. The reason he joined the Preservation Alliance, as he confided in Murderbot, was because of his friendship with Mensah. However, it appears that Mensah, who is already in a polyamorous relationship with multiple individuals, may not reciprocate Gurathin’s romantic feelings. With her being unavailable, Gurathin seems to be content with small gestures, such as secretly sniffing her pillow.

In a scene from Murderbot season 1, episode 3, there was a moment that felt a bit unclear without some background from the books. During their journey to DeltFall, Mensah mentioned the importance of “staying economically independent” and hinted at other members of Preservation Alliance considering joining the Corporation Rim. It turns out later (since Murderbot hadn’t bothered to read Mensah’s personal file) that Mensah is, in fact, the political leader of Preservation Alliance. She was tasked with this mission because her role as a leader within the community allows her to continue performing her primary duties while serving in public office.
