As an avid true crime enthusiast and follower of this infamous case since its unfolding two decades ago, I can’t help but feel a mix of intrigue and disbelief as I eagerly anticipate Scott Peterson‘s first-ever prison interview in Peacock’s new documentary, “Face to Face With Scott Peterson.” The teaser alone leaves me with unanswered questions and a renewed fascination for the story that once gripped the nation.
Scott Peterson is ready to tell his side of the story.
After spending the past twenty years behind bars for the murder of his wife Laci Peterson and their unborn son Conner, Scott Peterson, now 51, will share his side of the story for the first time in Peacock’s new true crime documentary “Face to Face With Scott Peterson.”
In the initial trailer dropped on July 29, director Shareen Anderson asks, “What’s the reason for people to pay attention to your views twenty years late?”
While Scott is shown in a prison visiting room, he doesn’t yet answer that burning question.
During this time, Janet Peterson, Scott’s sister-in-law, maintains his innocence despite the passage of years. She expresses her belief in the first glance that “Scott was unfairly accused and convicted of that murder.”
The three-part special will not only include extensive talks with Scott, but also interviews with various individuals. These people include ex-Modesto Police Department detectives Al Brocchini and Jon Buehler, Scott’s previous defense attorney Lara Yeretsian, and former ABC News Producer Mike Gudgell, among others.
The documentary series will likewise delve into recent advancements in the highly publicized case, as the Los Angeles Innocence Project revealed their involvement early this year by working towards reversing Scott’s murder conviction.
In January, the non-profit organization submitted four applications to a California court, which included a request for DNA testing. They claimed that newly discovered proof backs up Mr. Peterson’s long-held assertion of innocence, as stated in the acquired NBC documents.
In the year 2002, I reported my pregnant stepdaughter, Laci, missing after she went missing on Christmas Eve. According to Scott, he was out fishing at that time. However, by April of the following year, the remains of a male fetus and a portion of a woman’s body were discovered near the San Francisco Bay. Subsequently, Scott was arrested and charged with first-degree murder for Laci’s death and second-degree murder for the loss of our unborn son, whom we named Conner. He was subsequently convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment in 2004.
After the Innocence Project revealed their new initiative to exonerate Scott, his lawyer, Pat Harris, expressed delight, stating, “We are elated that the proficient legal team at the L.A. Innocence Project will join us in working towards proving Scott’s innocence.”
Check out the chilling teaser above.
Face to Face With Scott Peterson premieres Aug. 20 on Peacock.
