For quite some time now, the SteelSeries Arctis Gamebuds have become my preferred choice for immersive gaming audio experiences, outshining my Xbox headset in terms of comfort and daily use. They are undeniably worth the investment, even at $159.99 on Amazon.
I must admit, I’ve been blown away by their quality. However, this week SteelSeries introduced a new color option for the Gamebuds that has caught my eye – the ‘Glorange’ range. The transparent design and striking orange hue resonate with my fondness for unique accessories and remind me of the ultra-rare orange Halo Xbox given to developers.
Unfortunately, this beautiful orange shade is not compatible with Xbox systems. While they do work seamlessly on gaming handhelds such as Steam Deck, ROG Ally, and of course PlayStation consoles, I can’t help but feel a bit let down by the missed opportunity for cross-platform compatibility.
Gamebuds that can replace your headset and your Airpods

The SteelSeries Arctis Gamebuds have become my go-to gaming headset instead of my Xbox one, and even though they come at a premium, I’d happily add this new color option to my collection if it works with Xbox. It brings back memories of the ultra-rare Halo Orange Xbox limited edition that was distributed to developers, which is quite similar.

The Arctis Gamebuds are worth considering due to their compatibility with PlayStation consoles and gaming handhelds. You can opt to use Bluetooth or the convenient USB-C wireless receiver that comes included in the case (I personally prefer the latter). These headphones are a joy to use for gaming.
The Arctis Gamebuds come with an app that allows you to select presets tailored for specific games, such as Call of Duty and Diablo 4. There are over 200 game-specific settings to choose from.
In terms of battery life, the headphones offer a decent 10 hours on a single charge, and they can be recharged up to four times within their case before needing to be plugged in again. The case also supports wireless quick charging, allowing it to be charged alongside your smartphone using the same charging pad. Our Executive Editor awarded these headphones 4 out of 5 stars in our Arctis Gamebuds for Xbox review, demonstrating his high standards.
I’m unsure why SteelSeries have chosen not to include an Xbox edition in this limited release, although I suspect that the PlayStation version of the grey colorway has been more popular (although this is just my own conjecture).
It’s perplexing that the Xbox edition are compatible with everything, including the PS5. In my opinion, they represent a better value option, even though it can be confusing from a consumer standpoint. Let’s blame Microsoft for not using Bluetooth compatibility on their console like other companies have done. Oh well, Microsoft!
Although I won’t be purchasing a second pair of these Gamebuds myself, the Glorange edition remains an excellent choice for PlayStation and handheld gamers. For now, I’ll stick with my reliable Xbox-compatible set.
