The manga version of My Hero Academia has concluded its storyline, however, the anime adaptation from Studio BONES still has one significant season remaining before it follows suit. This autumn will see the debut of the eighth and concluding season of the anime, alongside the ongoing spin-off series, My Hero Academia: Vigilantes, offering a fresh perspective on UA Academy’s universe. As a tribute to this popular superhero shonen series, Japan has published a new fan book called “My Hero Academia: Ultra Age: The Final Fan Book.” This publication contains exclusive content as well as surprising insights from the creator, Koehi Horikoshi. Among these revelations, one of the most striking disclosures concerns the original destiny of the character Toga.
heads up: reading ahead might reveal the surprising end of My Hero Academia’s storyline
in the anime’s seventh season, Himiko Toga concluded her struggle against Ochaco and the heroes when she understood that they weren’t so dissimilar. Due to her encounter with Uravity, the hero with gravity-manipulating powers, the battle left her critically wounded, close to death. In a stunning turn of events, Toga chose to donate blood to Ochaco, thus saving the life of Class 1-A student. Unfortunately, this selfless act cost Toga her own life. However, based on additional information from the fan book, it appears that manga creator Kohei Horikoshi may have had an alternate ending in store.
The World Where Toga Lived
As per Kohei Horikoshi’s editor, Imamura, the initial plan was that the villain Toga would survive the final war, but later changed his mind. The original concept featured Toga serving time in prison after fighting against Shigaraki and All For One, discovering a second chance within those bars. Another idea that Horikoshi had was to keep Toga’s fate uncertain, never confirming whether she lived or died, leaving fans guessing. This would be done by having Ochaco leave a syringe of blood for Toga, only for it to disappear, allowing the audience to decide if Toga had survived or not.
As per the concluding fan guidebook, Horikoshi elected to eliminate Toga to ensure accountability for the climactic battle that concluded the series. Interestingly, editor Imamura was particularly pleased with Toga’s demise given its positive impact on the series ratings. This shape-shifting, bloodthirsty character had evolved into one of the show’s most significant antagonists. Even in her absence, Toga’s influence within the anime community continues to resonate.
My Hero Academia in 2025
Regrettably, there’s no indication yet from creator Kohei Horikoshi that the My Hero Academia universe will return in a sequel or spin-off. However, he has continued to produce art for UA Academy since Deku and Class 1-A ended their battle against Shigaraki. The impact of My Hero Academia as one of the most prominent superhero anime franchises is undeniable, a fact that Horikoshi himself can’t deny.
