As a seasoned gamer and avid anime enthusiast with over two decades of immersion into the captivating world of manga and animation, I have to say that My Hero Academia continues to be a standout masterpiece in this realm. The storyline’s depth, character development, and emotional resonance are unparalleled, and it never ceases to leave me on the edge of my seat.
Although the My Hero Academia manga has concluded, the anime adaptation carries on with its seventh season, airing fresh episodes. Now that Izuku Midoriya has returned to UA Academy, he confronts his greatest battle yet as he is the only one equipped to defeat Shigaraki. Recently, our team at ComicBook had a conversation with Daiki Yamashita, the Japanese voice actor for Deku, discussing the anime lead and where Yamashita thinks Izuku’s power originates from.
As the gaming enthusiast that I am, let me share an intriguing insight from my chat with Yamashita, the voice actor behind Deku. It’s no shocker that Deku relies on his pals to boost his might, be it physically or emotionally. You see, he’s been through a lot, but his trust in others has only grown stronger. That faith is what fuels his power. So if you put your faith in others, you might just reach heights you never thought possible on your own.
Daiki goes on, “With the aid of another person, you can uncover perspectives that would remain hidden otherwise. I believe Deku experiences this concept of power deeply. Instead of retreating, he chose to reveal himself to those around him. By seeking help, I think Izuku’s authentic character led him to repay the support he received from others in an even greater capacity. This act made him even more powerful.”
Deku’s Future in The Anime
In addition to discussing Deku’s power, Daiki delved into possible future scenarios for Izuku in light of the manga ending. When conversations shift towards overcoming challenges together, that is when the journey truly begins… Izuku and his companions are battling under the flag of restoring everyone’s happiness. As Deku mentioned at the start of season seven, his aspiration is to restore everyone’s happiness. He intends to fight with every ounce of strength, visualizing in his mind the smiles that will be restored. Personally, I hope that Izuku and his comrades will successfully restore those smiles, but I also wish for the heroes to end up happy themselves. When people envision those returning smiles, they may not consider the smiles of heroes, but I hope that the heroes who rescued us will also be smiling.
