In Japan, the popular manga series My Hero Academia recently released a new book, brimming with fresh insights about its characters post-series conclusion. Sadly, one of these updates dashed the romantic expectations fans may have harbored for two heroes from Class 1-A. The manga officially concluded in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine last year; however, creator Kohei Horikoshi continued his association with the series and its characters. Not only did he return to pen a new epilogue following the final chapter, but he also shared previously unveiled details.
The latest release from “My Hero Academia,” titled Ultra Age, is now available in Japan, dishing out previously unshared tidbits about the characters that weren’t part of the series narrative. This fresh material enlightens us on potential pro hero careers for the members of Class 1-A, as shown during the time skip in the final chapter, and regrettably nips any fan speculation about a romantic future between Eijiro Kirishima and Mina Ashido in the bud.
My Hero Academia Shuts Down Kirishima and Ashido Romance
In “My Hero Academia,” we witnessed a significant bond develop between Kirishima and Ashido over the course of the series. They influenced each other long before attending U.A. Academy, which propelled them to push their abilities to greater heights. Their relationship produced some memorable moments during the climactic battle against the villains. Although there were hints of a deeper connection between them, they remained just friends, never progressing into a romantic relationship as some fans had hoped. This pattern persists throughout the subsequent storyline.
In the latest update about Ashido’s life as a professional hero, it’s been revealed that she has known Kirishima since middle school, and their relationship is characterized by a friendly rivalry that persists into the future. As adults, they have a deep friendship, rooted in their shared courage to protect others. Their admiration for each other’s unique abilities is one indication of this bond… (credits: @aitaikimochi on X)
My Hero Academia Just Isn’t Interested in Romance
In my excitement as a fan, I must confess that while “My Hero Academia” delves deeply into the world of superheroes, it seems to have a minimal interest in romantic entanglements. Unlike other series, it has only occasionally explored relationships, with those that developed fully being between characters who played secondary roles. The students from Class 1-A, whom fans eagerly anticipated pairing off, were left unmatched. Even fan-favorite duos like Deku and Ochaco’s potential romance remains undecided, extending even beyond the final chapter and into the epilogue.
In the narrative of My Hero Academia, the heroes’ relationships were primarily centered around supporting each other in their battles against villains, rather than on personal romantic entanglements. The persistent focus on warfare left little room for significant development in their love lives, and surprisingly, no substantial romantic developments occurred despite fans’ expectations to the contrary. It’s unfortunate for those fans who had hoped for a different outcome.
