My Hero Academia Needs to Show Deku’s Pro Hero Future

My Hero Academia Needs to Show Deku’s Pro Hero Future

As a long-time fan who’s been riding this emotional rollercoaster since the early days of My Hero Academia, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and anticipation at the news of an extended ending. The original conclusion left us with more questions than answers, and while Deku stepping away from being a hero to teach was poetic, it also felt a bit anticlimactic for our beloved protagonist.

With the recent news that the last book of ‘My Hero Academia’ will expand on the original story, fans are eagerly anticipating fresh perspectives and answers about where each main character winds up post-timeskip following the final battle. A significant aspect of the manga’s conclusion that was somewhat overlooked in its final pages was Deku’s professional hero career after he lost his ability to use One For All.

In the contentious conclusion to My Hero Academia, following a short time jump post the war’s end, Shigaraki meets his demise at Deku’s hands in their final confrontation. The story resumes with Deku having relinquished the use of One For All and opting for a career as a teacher of budding heroes rather than being one himself. Over time, he lost touch with several friends who chose to become professional heroes. Despite disappointing some fans, there was a positive side: Deku received an advanced armor suit, funded by Bakugo and other schoolmates, granting him powers similar to Iron Man’s, enabling him to maintain his friendly rivalry with Bakugo while engaging in heroic feats. Now that the series will delve deeper into its ending, fans are eager to see what aspects of the story Horikoshi plans to further develop.

My Hero Academia Needs to Show Deku’s Pro Hero Future

Horikoshi Has the Perfect Opportunity to Explore Deku’s New Life as a Pro Hero

Instead of focusing on Deku transitioning from a hero to a mentor for a new generation, Horikoshi can now delve deeper into how Deku can learn from past errors and grow as an even superior hero. The original series ending hinted at Toga’s impact on Uravity as an adult and her lingering feelings of survivor’s guilt, but only touched the surface. An extended finale could explore this theme more thoroughly, particularly with Deku resuming his hero duties, and offer a deeper understanding of what it takes to be a hero in today’s society now that the youngsters have grown up.

An intriguing aspect that could be further developed in the extended ending is how, in earlier versions of My Hero Academia, Deku was initially conceived as a student at UA who relied on various devices instead of possessing a traditional superpower. This idea has been reintroduced with his Iron Man-inspired super suit, allowing fans to witness Deku in the role he was originally designed for, while still benefiting from Horikoshi’s growth as both a writer and an artist.
