What to Know for My Hero Academia: Vigilantes Anime
On April 7th, “My Hero Academia: Vigilantes” is set to debut as part of the Spring 2025 anime lineup. Alongside fresh promotional materials and previews, the show has also unveiled its principal voice actors for the main trio of unauthorized heroes. Shuichiro Umeda will voice Koichi Haimawari, a resident who chooses to become a neighborhood hero called “The Crawler” (similar to All Might’s influence on Izuku Midoriya), with the intention of aiding people in his community. Ikumi Hasegawa will lend her voice to Pop Step, a local idol who transitions from busking on the street to working alongside Koichi.
Lastly, Yasuhiro Mamiya portrays Knuckleduster, a rugged vigilante protagonist who mentors Koichi. Their lives become entwined in a more complex tale than Koichi ever anticipated. The upcoming anime is under the direction of Kenichi Suzuki, from Studio Bones’ new film division, Bones Film. Yosuke Kuroda reprises his role from the primary My Hero Academia TV series for the scriptwriting, Takahiko Yoshida oversees character design, and Yuki Hayashi collaborates with Shogo Yamashiro and Yuki Furuhashi on the music composition.
Why You Should Watch My Hero Academia: Vigilantes
If you’re a fan of “My Hero Academia”, you shouldn’t miss out on “My Hero Academia: Vigilantes”. Penned by Hideyuki Furuhashi with art by Betten Court, it’s actually a spinoff but shares significant connections to the main storyline. It delves into plotlines that substantially expand upon some of the most significant revelations in “My Hero Academia”, which were previously hinted at only in the original anime series. Moreover, viewers get a glimpse into Japan before heroes became prevalent.
As a bystander, I’ve found myself captivated by this spin-off series that offers glimpses into the lives of some of the primary protagonists from the main show, even All Might who remains at the peak of his powers. Yet, what intrigues me most is My Hero Academia: Vigilantes, which uncovers a more shadowy side of the hero world than what was initially depicted in the main series. It’s this grittier aspect that has audiences growing fond of its central trio of rule-breaking heroes, much like how fans have come to adore characters such as Deku and others from the main series.
