As a long-time fan of My Hero Academia and a professional voice actor with a deep love for the art, I couldn’t contain my excitement when I heard that I would be voicing a villain in the upcoming film, “My Hero Academia: You’re Next.” I’ve always been intrigued by the perspectives of the villains in this world – how they view heroism and the Hero Academy. So, when I was approached with the opportunity to bring Dark Might to life, I jumped at the chance.

In the upcoming “My Hero Academia” movie, “You’re Next,” set for release this Summer across Japan and part of the fourth film in the series, renowned voice actor Kenta Miyake will be portraying a new antagonist known as Dark Might. Interestingly, Miyake has long desired to play a villain, and now he’ll have his chance! The plot revolves around a villain who misunderstood All Might’s intentions, believing that he is destined to inherit the responsibility of saving the world. This new character adds an exciting twist to the storyline between Season 6 and Season 7 of the TV anime.

At Anime Expo 2024, Kenta Miyake from “My Hero Academia: You’re Next” shared with ComicBook his surprise and excitement over being offered a villain role in the upcoming film. Initially taken aback, he saw it as an opportunity to expand his horizons as a voice actor by delving deeper into the villainous side of the “My Hero Academia” universe. The experience proved to be an enjoyable one for Miyake.

My Hero Academia: Kenta Miyake Talks Playing a Villain

Miyake shared that he first heard about Dark Might’s role casually from a team member who mentioned, “Oh, by the way, they’ve asked you to be the antagonist.” Surprised, Miyake exclaimed, “Antagonist? Me? I’m a professional voice actor, and I’ve always wanted to try my hand at voicing a villain. It’s quite exhilarating!” He further expressed his fascination with understanding the villains’ perspective in “My Hero Academia,” an intrigue that had long piqued his interest.

In a short while, Miyake will appear as an antagonist in “My Hero Academia: Your Turn,” which is set to premiere in Japan on August 2nd. Following its Japanese release, it’ll hit North American screens starting October 11th. This upcoming film is overseen by the creator of the “My Hero Academia” series, Kohei Horikoshi, and boasts a new character designer. Tensai Okamura from studio Bones will be directing “My Hero Academia: Your Turn.”

Yosuke Kuroda is back on board to pen the script for the upcoming film, with Yoshihiko Umakoshi returning to create the character designs and Yuki Hayashi coming back to score the music. Joining the team for the first time are Kenta Miyake as Dark Might, Meru Nukumi playing Anna Scervino, Mamoru Miyano voicing Giulio Gandini, Ken Uo portraying Hugo, Yuki Ono bringing Kamil to life, Minako Kotobuki embodying Deborah, and Yusuke Kobayashi lending his voice to Paulo. Michitake Kikuchi will play Simon, while Masaki Terasoma takes on the role of Bruno in this new production.
