As a dedicated fan of My Hero Academia since its inception, I must say that the “Fantasy AU” has been a delightful surprise. The blend of high fantasy and superheroes is a unique twist that expands the universe in ways I never thought possible. The art style for these characters is reminiscent of Dungeons & Dragons, which only adds to the charm.
In the realm of My Hero Academia, even though the manga concluded this year, the characters of Class 1-A continue to thrive in dimensions beyond the one crafted by Kohei Horikoshi. While the original series that introduced us to Deku, Bakugo, and Shoto Todoroki spanned more than a decade, spin-offs like Vigilantes and Team-Up Mission delved deeper into their crime-fighting escapades. In an alternate universe, the heroes and villains of Class 1-A exist beyond our contemporary society, embracing a fantastical aesthetic that makes them seem as if they leaped off the pages of a Dungeons & Dragons manual. To hype up this year’s Jump Festa event, these mythical renditions of My Hero Academia’s elite have resurfaced once more.
If you’re unfamiliar with “My Hero Academia’s” “Fantasy AU”, it was created by Kohei Horikoshi himself. In this alternate universe, he depicted his original anime characters in a unique and different setting. This new world was introduced early on in the manga through a bonus chapter, distinct from the one fans of “My Hero Academia” were accustomed to. These new designs also appeared briefly in the anime adaptation, as Studio BONES created a special sequence focusing on these fantasy characters. With the main manga having reached its conclusion, it seems that Jump Festa might be preparing for this fantasy world to take over as the setting for Class 1-A in the future.

My Hero Academia’s Future is a Fantasy
Currently, neither Kohei Horikoshi nor Shonen Jump have officially announced plans for a sequel or spin-off of “My Hero Academia.” However, fans can anticipate some exciting developments in the coming months. The manga’s final volume will feature an additional thirty pages not included in the initial release as a post-credits scene. Moreover, there is one more season of the anime set to premiere next year, providing a thrilling conclusion to the series.
Previously, the creator of “My Hero Academia” has expressed interest in exploring a horror genre, which would be an unusual shift from his popular action-packed shonen series. Although no future projects have been announced, it’s evident that Horikoshi continues to generate artwork set within this fictional universe.
