My Spy The Eternal City: Anna Faris Details “Special Experience” Making Prime Video Sequel

As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I must say that the sequel to My Spy, titled My Spy The Eternal City, has certainly piqued my interest. Having grown up in the era of 8-bit graphics and pixelated characters, it’s always intriguing to see how modern films pay homage to those nostalgic roots.

In 2020, the first installment of “My Spy” debuted, starring Dave Bautista as CIA agent JJ who teams up with Chloe Coleman’s nine-year-old character Sophie, whom he is blackmailed into training as a spy. Their lives become entangled when JJ is assigned to take down Victor (Greg Bryk), Sophie’s uncle. Following a successful mission, JJ moves in with Sophie and her mother. In the newly-released sequel, “My Spy: The Eternal City,” JJ joins Sophie on her school excursion to Italy and encounters Sophie’s principal, Nancy Buck (Anna Faris), there.

Anna Faris Details “Special Experience” on My Spy 2

Principal Nancy Buck is a role that Anna Faris has inadvertently sought after since her childhood.

In an interview with ComicBook, Anna Faris shared how her past role as a school crossing guard helped shape her character, Nancy’s power-hungry persona, in the movie “My Spy The Eternal City.”

As a late bloomer gamer, I can relate to Faris’s words. I too had an insatiable yearning for control in my childhood, perhaps even resembling an asexual hunger for power. My older brother, with his towering presence and playful roughhousing, often shoved my face into the snow. Yet, amidst the chaos, I found solace in being a school crossing guard. The responsibility of ensuring children’s safety gave me a sense of control that I craved. Now, as Nancy Buck, the high school principal with her own power thirst and justice, I am thrilled to immerse myself in this experience.

Faris, who is well-recognized for her comedic roles in movies like “Scary Movie” and “Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs,” looked back on her career’s beginnings after playing Nancy. Surprisingly, her early acting experiences were heavily focused on dramatic parts.

I’m amazed and thankful for the unexpected roles I’ve been given in my life. These parts have taken me by surprise, and I’m deeply grateful for each and every one of them. Growing up, I was heavily involved in theater, but my background was all in dramatic roles. I never saw myself as a comedic actress – I had no sense of humor and couldn’t even laugh at myself. Yet here I am, playing the role of Nancy Buck, and I’m absolutely loving every moment of it. This experience has been truly special for me for numerous reasons.

My Spy The Eternal City is now streaming on Prime Video.
