Mysterious Nintendo Device Leaks Ahead of Switch 2 Reveal

As a seasoned gamer with decades of Nintendo fandom under my belt, this latest development has me intrigued and slightly bewildered. I’ve seen my fair share of leaks and rumors, but this one seems to be dancing around the truth like a cat on a hot tin roof. If it’s not for the Switch 2, then what could it possibly be? A new peripheral for an unannounced Nintendo project? Or perhaps a gadget destined for the Super Nintendo World theme parks?

It appears that a potential first accessory for the Nintendo Switch 2 may have been inadvertently revealed. If it turns out not to be related to the Nintendo Switch 2, then it could potentially be designed for an entirely different device. The speculation arises due to Nintendo filing a new wireless device with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). The model number of this device is CLO-001. While this doesn’t confirm its purpose, it does suggest that it’s not intended for the Nintendo Switch 2, as “001” usually denotes a brand new product, whereas the Nintendo Switch has the model number HAC-001.

In addition, if this device were for the hypothetical Nintendo Switch 2, it would probably be categorized as a “wireless gaming console,” but it isn’t. Instead, it’s labeled as just a “wireless device.” The documents accompanying this product suggest that it doesn’t rely on its own battery power, instead needing to be connected to a power source. It can utilize a USB-C charger for powering up, although the exact details might vary. Notably, there are no indications of any body-worn components in the design.

From the document it can be inferred that Bluetooth technology, as well as 5GHz and 6GHz Wi-Fi radios, are absent. However, a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi radio and a 24GHz mmWave sensor are present instead. While this doesn’t provide extensive information, some people are theorizing that the mmWave sensor might be used to monitor movement.

Currently, it’s challenging to discern if this refers to anything significant at all. Some speculate it might pertain to Super Nintendo World theme parks, possibly motion sensing technology. However, there’s no definitive evidence linking it to the Switch 2. It could just as easily be unrelated to the Switch 2.

Currently, Nintendo hasn’t responded to any of these reports. Typically, it keeps quiet about rumors and speculation, so we don’t anticipate this to change. However, if Nintendo breaks its pattern or new details emerge, we’ll make sure to update the story.
